Valedictory Service and Dinner

We honored our wonderful fathers here at ELC by treating them to an evening of fun activities, food and singing.  Children were excited to perform for their lovely dads and practiced their song for weeks before the celebration. We had an energetic evening with many father-child games.

Continuing Enrolment Intentions for 2023

Parents, please be informed that your child’s place remains guaranteed in 2023 unless the College is advised otherwise in writing. If your child will not be returning in 2023, please ensure to fill a withdrawal form (available at the school reception) by Friday, 16 September 2022. A term’s written notice is required to withdraw a student from the College and a term’s fee is payable in lieu of such notice.

BEAM

On Tuesday, 16 August students in prep went to the Melbourne Zoo. We have been learning about ‘living and non-living things’ as part of our Integrated Studies topic. We had a fantastic day seeing lots of amazing animals and learning about their different features. We also enjoyed a picnic with all our friends. We were all very tired after lots of walking, but it was a wonderful day!

HOMEROOM 7B

In the beginning of the year, a number of students in 7B didn’t know each other very well, especially because a portion of us were from other schools. But after getting involved with others during classes, breaks and multiple opportunities, we slowly became family. As new students from different schools, we spent time together with at least one other student who was at this school before, and slowly, we learnt more about our peers - who we were individually and who we are altogether as a community.

Being able to have discussions, share our opinions and personally learn and interact is an experience that I could never be more thankful for. Every day, our days consist of encouraging, supporting, and comforting our mates, and making each other feel like we have found a part of ourselves in our friends. Together, we rise by lifting others.

LOVING AND SERVING OTHERS

You never know what difference you can make in someone else’s life by simply serving or helping them out. As straight forward as it sounds, an act of kindness or compassion can make an immense impact on someone’s life. The words ‘caring’, ‘loving’ and ‘serving’ are so widely used in our society today – especially in the Christian environment we are in. But can I encourage you to bring those words to life by physically taking part in such acts, such as picking up litter, helping someone with their homework, or assisting your teacher’s when they may need it.

In the well-known bible story of the little boy feeding the five thousand with only five loaves of bread and two fish, it perfectly illustrates that even with the little you have or do for someone, it can still make a big difference with God. Even if it may not be helping five thousand people, your own service and love can majorly impact someone else’s life.

Show God’s character through your own actions, as in Matthew 5:16, it states “Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your father in heaven.”

My name is Jayden Rajeshkumar and I am an SRC for 10A.

In the past few years, lockdown has brought down the sense of community, we were locked inside our homes unable to interact or it was very hard to interact with others during the pandemic, and so as homerooms, we have been tasked to give back to our communities, and strengthen bonds that were lost during these lockdown years. That’s why our homeroom (10A) is teaming up with “Clean Up Australia”, to clean up one of Melbourne beaches.

Our homeroom is very concerned about pollution and its effects on our environment. Rubbish pollutes beaches everywhere, unfortunately the rubbish that ends up on the beach is washed into the sea, this rubbish ends up chocking, trapping, or killing the sea life. Teaming up with these people will allow us to improve the quality of beaches in Australia and save animals from endangerment. This activity will bring our homeroom together, spend time together, make loads of memories and build a sense of community, our homeroom is really looking forward to this experience.

RESPONSIBILITY

What does the bible say about responsibility?

The Bible has a lot to say about taking responsibility. For example, we are to be responsible for the way we act toward others (Luke 10:30-37). We are responsible for the way we treat our families (1 Timothy 5:8). We are responsible to study God's Word (2 Timothy 2:15).

As Christians, we have certain duties to carry out. First, we have a Christian duty to serve each other. The Bible says, "Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms." (1 Peter 4:10 ) It is in our service that all will see God's grace in action as we demonstrate our faith. Service is the embodiment of Christian love toward others.

Second, we have a Christian duty to encourage one another. First Thessalonians 5:11 says, "Therefore, encourage one another and build each other up." It is easy in this world to become discouraged because of work, relationships and finances. It is through encouragement that people can rise up and overcome any obstacle they may encounter if they believe in themselves. So, it is our Christian duty to help them believe, overcome and stay faithful in a discouraging world.

Lastly, we have a Christian duty to pray for each other. James 5:16 says, "Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective." The heavy loads we carry just don't stay in the natural world, but also belong in the spiritual. We must pray for each other. Sometimes when we are tired and burdened we just don't feel like praying. Therefore, we as Christians must intercede for our brothers and sisters and pray on their behalf. Powerful and effective prayer will make all the difference.

To whom much is given, much is required. As Christians, we have a duty toward others. It is not a choice, but it is required. Be encouraged that it is not too late to take your post and serve God and others to the fullness of your duty. For if we do not take our post and do our duty, who will?
