SCHOOL HOLIDAY STORIES

On Tuesday morning, the children were very excited to share their holiday stories with their friends and teachers. The children shared some very interesting stories, such as going to the Melbourne Zoo, staying home and doing some drawing, going out for dinner, watching TV, going on a cruise ship, playing at home and many more. The teacher facilitated and managed the group discussion by reinforcing the mat time rules, asking questions and giving opportunities for the children to share their thoughts.

The children showed growing confidence in their participation in the group time, used their communication and language skills to convey messages with purpose and listened to their peers with respect and interest.

BEAM

After learning about all the different Australian Animals, Year 1 students went on a trip to Moonlit Sanctuary. There they saw many different animals, such as: kangaroos, dingos, koalas, Tasmanian devils, owls, wombats, and many other animals. Not only did they get a chance to see and touch these different animals, but they were also given the opportunity to feed some of them! It was a wonderful day and all the Year 1s had a fantastic time at Moonlit Sanctuary!

LIFT OTHERS UP WITH YOUR WORDS

The tongue has the power of life and death.” Proverbs 18:21

The stakes are high. Words can either speak life, or words can speak death. Our tongues can build others up, or they can tear them down. Using encouraging, positive words to lift others up has been a focus in the 4L classroom this semester. In Term 3 the College commemorated Anti-Bullying Week. During this week, each class was invited to create a flag or poster on the theme of anti-bullying and the winning class would receive a prize. 4L excitedly prepared their poster about ‘Lifting others up with our words’ and was even more excited to find out they were the winning class in Beam! The students enjoyed celebrating their win and the end of term with a KFC lunch!

 YEAR 7C HOMEROOM

"I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.” Genesis 12:3

7C Homeroom students started their academic journey this year declaring this wonderful promise from the Bible as our class welcomed 7 new students and participated in the OM adopt a missionary project, as part of this project we as a class prayed for the country of Israel and the missionary work that is being carried out among the Jewish people. Truly according to His word our Father God has showered His Glory upon our Homeroom so far this year, we give Him all the glory, honour, and praise in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

YEAR 7 CHINESE EXCURSION

Our students attended the Chinese Museum Tour and the Middle Autumn Festival workshop last term. These helped our students reinforce their knowledge of the Chinese/Australian history, and learn festival stories and celebrations.

YEAR 6 CHINESE EXCURSION

This excursion was in Term 3 and was a a great opportunity to help students in reinforcing the knowledge from discussions and learning in the classroom. On the day, we visited Chinese Museum and the Chinatown. The trip helped students understand the Chinese Australian history. Students also enjoyed experience of dining in the local Chinese restaurant.

EXCELLENT VS EXCELLENCE

Excellent and Excellence are two different words (Same-Same but Different). The word used in the school slogan ‘The Christian Choice for Excellence in Education’ is the latter. Excellence is more a value, an attribute, a trait one carries with them - hopefully for a long time - for life. It refers to a drive, a pursuit to be better than the norm, greater than the average or expected standard in a selected field. One would hope and desire this drive to be applied in every aspect of life. Excellent is (I personally see and regard) to be somewhat a measured standard - that is final once assigned by whoever claims ‘it’ to be excellent. Yes, this is also subjective to the individual - what may be excellent for one, may not be for another. So, to rate someone or something as excellent, may be impossible unless there is a universal standard to justify what is ‘excellent’. Once something is regarded as excellent, anything that ends up being higher than that, cannot be called excellent, but will need to be more excellent or a synonym that signifies it! Like magnificent, or incredible. (Apple is running out of names for their M1 chips… Pro -> Max -> Extreme to what? Isn’t max meaning Maximum, therefore voids the possibility to go beyond this limit? What is so ‘Pro’ about the Pro chips if there is a Max above it? Pro now sounds amateur and basic in comparison.

Excellence on the other hand signifies a quality, and an ongoing perspective/attitude towards life and not settling for any less than being better than what was personally achieved before. Always seeking to be better and obtain a personal best in life. This trait and positive/growth mindset is a positive and encouraging one, one that does not have a final destination nor an end goal - as we identify ourselves as imperfect (Romans 3:23), and therefore will never attain perfection like Jesus. All we can do is strive to be more like Him each day (Ephesians 5:1-2). This is done through adopting a mental posture of excellence (Philippians 4:8). It is easy to rate oneself as excellent in something or being excellent - but the real key is that it doesn’t stop there. Instead, it should be an ongoing desire and pursuit for excellence - to always one up ourselves because we believe God has created us and called us to be and do greater things than He (John 14:12). While we are still alive, our purpose here on Earth and calling by God is not yet finished, and we still have greater things to live out - which means we still have the opportunity to be and do greater things (2 Peter 1:3-4). Being a school - an educational organisation - Hence the slogan ‘The Christian Choice for Excellence in Education.’ 30+ years on, we (harmonious partnership between school, home and church) continue to always be better than what we were before, to help children be better than what they were, to train them up in the way he should go (Proverbs 22:6) and to discover their God given gifts/talents and pursue their purpose and calling in life.

LAUNCH CAPTAIN

As we approach the final term of the year exams are not too far ahead. Exams can be a challenging time, being stressful to many people who are wanting to receive excellent results. The only way to succeed the performance in our academics can help us strive towards excellence in our exam results. There is a reward in the effort put into work, and the bible mentions the profit you gain from hard work. There are many bible verses that reflect on pursuing hard work.

  • Colossians 3:23-24 – There is a reward in hard work.
  • Proverbs 14:23 – Hard work brings massive profit.
  • Proverbs 12:11- Abundance comes from hard work.

If you are stressed out during this last term, make sure to pray and succeed during class time, for the legacy we leave on the year will reflect on our effort, and whether we wish to excel or not is our decision. This is the last term, make it count!

INTEGRITY

Integrity is moral and spiritual uprightness. It is a personal choice that one makes -- a decision to hold oneself to an ethical standard, regardless of the consequences. A person with integrity will consistently demonstrate good character by being honest with themselves. This means owning up to mistakes you've made regardless of other external factors, or resisting temptations even when you know that no one else will know.

Proverbs 28:6 tells us "Better is a poor man with integrity than a rich man who is crooked in his ways." As Christians, it means more to have

spiritual integrity than it is to exhibit religious performance. Although acting with integrity is difficult and seemingly non-beneficial in the

short-term, at the end of the day God will reward those with integrity for their unwavering belief in Him. Having integrity is something that is built from small, little things rather than one big decision. It does not matter how impossible it might seem, doing what is right and acceptable before God give you peace, security and guidance on following His path. May we all maintain and uphold our integrity.
