Value of the Month - Friendship

How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!  It is like precious oil poured on the head, running down on the beard, running down on Aaron’s beard, down on the collar of his robe.  It is as if the dew of Hermon were falling on Mount Zion. For there the Lord bestows his blessing, even life forevermore. Psalm 133: 1-3 NIV

Name writing

We started the term with a name writing activity. Some of our children had  practiced to write their names during the holidays and we put this into action.

Proper pencil grip, letter formation, identifying upper and lower case letters as well as establishing one hand to do their writing instead of swopping hands were observed during this session. Children were extremely attentive and took interest in writing their name independently. A few of the children requested assistance and the educators wrote the name on the top of the board for the children to follow (copy).

BEAM

On Wednesday, 13 July 2022, Lighthouse Christian College celebrated Naidoc Week. It was a special opportunity to acknowledge and honour the rich history, culture and achievements of Aborignal and Torres Straight Islander people.

We had special guest Mr David Tourneir (member of the Boon Wurrung Foundation), who did the Welcome to Country and Raising of the Flag ceremonies. It was an absolute honour to hear from Mr Neville Jetta (a former AFL player who played for the Melbourne Football Club and now the Development Coach for Collingwood Football Club) and Kyarna Williams from Year 10. We appreciated     hearing more about the heart they have for their culture and family. Throughout the day students learnt more about the culture,  history and achievements by completing various Art and Music Activities.

Well done to all the students that submitted entries to our ‘NAIDOC Art Competition’.

Congratulations to the following BEAM students who submitted the winning entries: Claudia Yan Prep V, Jayk Maha Marakkalage 2R, Jahzara William 3N.

Congratulations also goes to Arya Perera (2L) for winning the best dressed competition in BEAM. A special thank you to Mr Kippen and the team for their hard and wonderful work in making our NAIDOC event extremely significant and special.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.

Year 5 & 6 Sport

This must have been on the minds of everyone - it is a blessing for sport to resume as usual this year. The Year 5 and 6 students have been very busy in the first semester. These are some of their involvement and achievements.

CSEN Primary Rally Days

In Semester 1, the Year 5 & 6 formed Newcombe, T-Ball, Netball, Soccer, Indoor-Cricket and Tchoukball teams and practiced for that day. As the teams focused on

excellence in sport, there are sporting values that are aligned to the fruits of the spirit that we want our students to exhibit.. The boys Newcombe team put up an awesome performance to be the Champions. The team members are: Rehan Fernando, Orlando Veasny, Andrew Louis, bir Bajpai, Colin Xu, Nicholas George, Seth Jansen, Jacob Rajendran, Tavis Rajeshkumar, Krish Muthuvelu, Ayansh Shekbar, Aariyan Senthuran

SSV Athletics

After our House Athletics, students who have performed well were selected to take part in the SSV Athletics. This is an event where Lighthouse competes with the public primary schools in the Springvale District. Our students did us proud that day. Almost every student came back with a ribbon. Once again, this is a great

opportunity for our students to shine not just in their events, but to shine like a Lighthouse through our behaviour in the competition as well as cheering

for all competitors who are far behind others. Knowing the values is one thing, living it out is what matters. The achievement at the events:

House Volleyball and House Basketball

Each term, the College organises House Sport for each Year level from Year 5 to 10. In Term 1, we had the House Volleyball at the Oval and in Term 2, House Basketball was held at Springers. Our appreciation to all the parents who have been so supportive of their participation and to all the students for all their effort and enthusiasm.

LAUNCH

Serving others is a topic the bible mentions regularly, but what is its importance? Serving others not only improves ourselves but brings joy to those we help. An example on how to serve others is gift giving. The bible often mentions the importance of giving and how God values a cheerful giver.

Proverbs 11:25 says “The generous person will prosper, and whoever refreshes others will be refreshed”. This means by giving and serving others, we will also be served by other people.

2 Corinthians 9:7 says “The Lord calls us to be joyful in everything we do for others because this pleases God. God loves a cheerful giver”.

Being a giver and serving others is valued by God and his people, and as we go into the semester it is important to not only think about serving ourselves but serving other people as well.

FRIENDSHIP

In the past I there has never been a time in my life where I have had someone as my best friend. There’s not one instance in primary school and early years of high school where I believed I mattered in my friendships.

And because of this I lent upon myself to talk and converse with anyone and everyone. This led to me giving up parts of myself to fit into a group just so I could feel as though I had friends and subsequently, making the mistake of losing the already good friends I had in the first place. All I wanted in this life was to have one person to be my friend and stay long enough to keep that role in my life.

I am now 16 years old, and I find myself pondering on how I am blessed with not one but two best friends, both accepting, intelligent, kind, and caring best friends. I believe that God put these two people into my life knowing that I would not only be loved but challenged. I’m not kidding when I say that we are all opposites of each other. And whilst they may annoy or make me angry sometimes, I wouldn’t trade these people for any others. Not because I’m not open for making any other friends but because I finally found my people. The people I can talk to for hours and laugh until I can’t breathe, the people I can cry to and hug with, the people who know I would do the same for them.

I always thought that friendship was a number, the number of friends you had determined your value as a person. But its really not. You don’t need 100 people to be your friends, not if they aren’t dependable, or don’t accept you and especially not if you have to change any part of yourself to be accepted. God really works His blessings unexpectedly, without you even knowing. God brought the three most unlikely people to be my friends and not only did He make it work, but He made it so that whatever life threw at us that we would always stick together. Its sounds cheesy, I know, but it’s the truth.

At the end of everything when it comes down to who you want as your friend, look around to that person sitting next to you, that person at school or at soccer practice could be your friend. Keep them and cherish them and don’t let them go, because good friends would do just the same.
