EARLY LEARNING CENTRE
SCIENCE WEEK
One of the experiments for science week at ELC, was to combine dry and wet ingredients and to create a volcano. The children were learning about how predicting results work and using all their senses. Science week was a good way to nurture their curiosity, and let the children form their own opinions.
BEAM
From the Chaplain - Mrs Cherrie Marshall
“It has been a huge term so far for the beam students in Christian Studies and chapels. We have had a visit from an author, Ps Jeremy Griffiths who read his
stories in chapel and year 2 classes and blessed every year 2 student with one of his books.
We then had an amazing day of prayer across the whole school where students and staff took time out in their classrooms or went to the prayer room to pray for
the college, our families and the government. Students really enjoyed the opportunity to pray.
Following this has been Anti-Bullying week across the whole school. Classes were asked to participate in a competition in their homerooms to design an Anti-Bullying Banner for their classroom around our theme of unity. The prizes for the best banners were won by the 4L and 7C homerooms - congratulations!
They were also able to contribute to a larger school banner declaring that “Lighthouse says No to bullying”.
You can see this on the front fence of the college as you enter.
NAVIGATE
This term students in year 7 Drama have been exploring elements of theatre and Christianity through plays. We have been exploring different ideas and parables
that are told in the Bible through dramatic adaptations. By adapting these stories into a modern-day setting, students can connect and understand the heart of the message in meaningful ways to them.
After each dramatic performance, in class, we pause and reflect on how we feel it went. By using our elements of drama, the students decide how they are going to modify their performance to truly portray and communicate the message.
What a wonderful and brave group of theatre kids we have!
