DEPUTY PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

LCC has established a structured process for reporting any concerns regarding the safety and welfare of our students. We want to ensure that all members of our community are aware of this process and feel empowered to utilize it if necessary. If you become aware of any incident that raises concerns about the safety or wellbeing of a child at the College, we encourage you to act. You can report such incidents directly to our designated Child Safety Officers.

You can contact them or your child’s teacher through the following channels:

In Person: Our Child Safety Officers are available on campus during school hours. You can request a meeting with them in person to discuss your concerns.

Phone: You can reach our Child Safety Officers by phone during school hours. Please contact the College Office at 8796 7373 and ask to speak to one of them.

Email/SEQTA DM: If you prefer to communicate in writing, you can email or send a SEQTA DM.

Anonymous Reporting: We understand that some individuals may feel more comfortable reporting concerns anonymously. As such, you will have the option to

submit a confidential form using the following link: Child Safety Concern Reporting Form. This link is also available on the Parent Portal in SEQTA.

Regardless of how you choose to report, rest assured that all reports will be taken seriously and investigated promptly. We are committed to maintaining confidentiality throughout the reporting and investigation process, and we will take appropriate action to address any concerns raised.

Additionally, we encourage open communication between the College and our community. If you have any questions, suggestions or require further information about our child safety procedures, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us. Together, we can work to ensure the safety and well-being of all students at Lighthouse Christian College.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership in creating a safe and nurturing environment for our children.

WELLBEING

Being a child or a teen these days can be really difficult. They face challenges that didn’t really exist when we as parents were younger. As a result, emotional understanding and regulation is a skill many have not developed as well and emotional resilience can be quite low. As parents we can help out young people with some simple strategies that help fill their emotional cup and these don’t include screen time! When a child feels emotionally “full”, their social life improves, their academics improve and their overall health and wellbeing improves. Not to mention, long lasting relationships that are formed as they head into adulthood.

Additionally, the wellbeing team aim to help equip you with ways to help your child regulate their emotions when things do get out of control. Check out our Parent workshop on “Emotional Regulation” straight after school on Thursday 23rd May, presented by Toolbox Education, it will be full of valuable tools to help you parent this generation.

Introducing: Mental Health and Wellbeing Leader – Primary

Hi, my name is Karen Lloyd and I am the Head of Student Wellbeing for Primary. This year part of my role also encompasses the Mental Health and Wellbeing Leader (MHWL) role as part of the Mental Health in Primary Schools (MHiPS) government initiative.

I have been at Lighthouse for nearly 7 years and have held previous roles as Head of Learning Support and Head of Primary Curriculum. I have taught Prep to Year 12 and have been teaching in Year 4 since 2021.

I work together closely with key LCC staff, including our Primary Chaplain and School Counsellors and in partnership with our Deputy Principal (Primary) and Head of Student Wellbeing (Secondary) to support staff and students with mental health and wellbeing.

The Mental Health and Wellbeing role is a strategic leadership role that aims to:

1. Build staff capacity to support mental health literacy

2. Advocate for and value student voice

3. Identify and implement evidence-based approaches aligned to student needs

4. Coordinate and monitor clear referral pathways

5. Promote a strategic whole-school approach to mental health and wellbeing

6. Strengthen links and collaborate with the school community and other support services

One of my key priorities this year is to help connect and build our capacity as a school community in the area of mental health literacy. When we understand we can better support. Together with the Joseph Kan (Head of Wellbeing – Secondary), we would love to see you at our next Parent Network Workshop presented by Toolbox Education. Please register and come along, connect and learn together after school on Thursday 23 May. We would LOVE to see you there!

PRIMARY - ELC - YEAR 2

Children enjoyed the outdoor activities with their peers. They practiced balancing on the balance board, bouncing on the giant ball, throwing ball into the basketball hoop, climbing on the challenge course, and riding the tricycle.

PREP - 2 CROSS COUNTRY

The P-2 students had a wonderful time at cross-country last week! The race was full of excitement as athletes tackled the tough course. It was a great show of sportsmanship and determination that left everyone inspired.

PRIMARY - YEARS 3 - 6

Our first Lighthouse Primary Music Soiree

On Tuesday 30th of April, Lighthouse hosted its first Primary Music Soiree. This was an opportunity for students learning instruments either at school or outside of school, to share their skills and talents with family and friends. In totally, 19 students from Prep through to Year 6, performed on instruments including Piano, Drum-kit, Flute, Violin and Voice. The level of skill displayed was quite amazing, even from our youngest students and left me feeling so excited about what the future of music at Lighthouse looks like!!!

Congratulations to the following students who performed at the soiree:

Ethan Que 6K, Selah Jibin 4PL, Chloe Ly PS, Cecilia Wang PS, Jonathan Liu 1N, Jaden Ho 4PL, Gabriel Kosasih 1B, Arnold Sun 5N, Howard Riau PM, Austin Voinea 2H, Shaniya Gounder 5I, Pete Kachappilly 3T, Claire Li 6J, Tyrone Lin 3S, Isabelle Gui 5A, Aarav Tandon 4PL, Lily Muhaso 6Y, Aiden Ly 5N, Daniel Jacob 4SW.

A huge thankyou to Ben Tibba and Lily Muhaso, our Primary Music Captains, for hosting the evening and for their assistance in its smooth running. A very big thankyou also to Mrs Vincy Pang, for all her work in helping to organise and run the soiree. It truly was a wonderful evening of music-making and the first of several events this year when the Lighthouse community will have a chance to celebrate and encourage its young musicians.

Year 3-6 Cross Country

It was a cool, misty morning, but the clouds made way for the sun to shine upon us. Today was Cross Country Day! We cheered, we raced, we strived. We encouraged our teammates and pushed ourselves over the finish line. What a great time we all had celebrating together and enjoying some time out of the classroom. We applauded one another, but at the end of the day, only one house could come out on top… Ten Boom Titans!

Thank you to Mr Eddison and the P.E. Team for organising such a wonderful and successful event for our students!

It was tiring. It was hard. But in the end, everyone faced it! Rutendo Oduol

SECONDARY

Empowerment Through Games

In class we do try to inculcate the habit of working as a team and giving students the validation to feel appreciated, supported and motivated. Further also to recognise and celebrate our individual potential and to see and celebrate others and their capabilities. As a homeroom teacher I regularly play different games in the classroom and ask students to work in pairs or groups. Games like wordle, connections and jeopardy serve as great tools in illustrating the value of empowerment, offering not only entertainment but also profound lessons in collaboration, critical thinking, and self-assurance.

These games foster a sense of mutual respect, highlighting the idea that collaboration can lead to greater achievements. In this collaborative environment, students feel empowered to contribute their unique perspectives, recognising the value of teamwork in achieving common goals.

SYSTEM ENGINEERING

On Friday 22nd of March, Systems Engineering students participated in an excursion to the Formula One at Albert Park Circuit.

We met at the school at 8 and left at 8:15. We arrived at the Albert Park Grand Prix circuit at 9:00. After walking around the area, we sat at the talk stage area and watched the Hydrobot Competition contestants' presentations, where our own Lighthouse student achieved an honorary mention.

After the presentations were over, we were given free time to explore the area. We explored many workshops, such as the G-force simulation, jet flight VR experience, the pitstop workshop, the army vehicles, the drone legion, and got to see the F1 drivers drive. At 12:30, we were called back to have lunch and then afterwards, have a little bit more free time. During this time, we got to see the F3 drivers race. At 1:30, we went back to the talk stage seating area and the winners for the Hydrobot competition were announced.

This concluded our excursion at the Formula 1 Grand Prix, and we left the circuit at 2:30 and arrived back at school at 3:15.

This was such an amazing excursion and I and many other classmates are very grateful that we were able to go to the Grand Prix. It was such a good and memorable experience, and many things were learnt.

DIGITAL SOLUTIONS

In Year 7, students are enthusiastically engaged in hands-on activities combining Lego construction, robotic sensors, and block-based coding to craft their own Lego robots. Through a blend of following robotics tutorials and devising original designs, students are tasked with integrating various components such as motors, light sensors, and speakers to bring their creations to life. This multidisciplinary endeavour not only nurtures their creativity in design but also fosters logical thinking skills essential for programming.

Maker Space

During this semester, students engaged in both independent and collaborative work to complete the design process. They utilised Tinker Cad, a digital tool that employs a simplified constructive solid geometry method, to design 3D furniture. Additionally, students looked at production design and work on props and sets.

Year 7 SRCs

The year 7 SRCs for 2024 are Rafferty Chea 7A, Eliana Londy 7B and Maria Kurian 7C. Here they are!

Hello, my name is Maria Kurian and I’m the SRC for 7C. I am 12 and some of my passions are netball, painting and I hope to someday work in the medical field when I’m older to help the people in need. I think my relationship with God will forever and always be developing and changing for the better. I will always strive to be more like Christ in every way I can such as serving others. As an SRC, I can find other ways to help people such as changing this school for the greater good. Some of the things I look forward to doing this year is to make any minor but impactful improvements in our school and to make it the first choice for Christian schools. I really hope that the other year 7 SRCs and I can make a big difference in Lighthouse Christian College.

Hi, my name is Eliana Londy and I'm the 7B SRC. I am 12 turning 13 on august 16. Some of my passions are drawing, Oztag and sketching. Later in my life I hope someday I can be a Vet or even go into sonography. God is a huge chapter in my life, and I pray that it continues like that. My relationship with him will continue to grow and change and I hope it’s for the better. This school year I hope that I can make it enjoyable, not just for myself, but for others around me. I hope that I can help others grow their faith as well as growing mine. I look forward to making new friends, creating new memories and trying new things. I will strive to do my best and achieve new things to help change Lighthouse Christian college. I hope that this year can be enjoyable for everyone, I pray that we all continue to look up to God for support and guidance. I hope that with the help of my peers we can change Lighthouse Christain College for the better.

Hi I’m Rafferty Chea. SRC is a great student organization because it helps other students and teachers at Lighthouse Christian College succeed in being a better school. My Passion for joining SRC is that I wanted to help out the Lighthouse community make the school a better place and help students and teachers who are going through a hard time. I really want to represent the best of SRC, but I still want to make it a wonderful place to have fun. The main/ biggest reason that I wanted to join SRC is to help students with their troubles and not have them take any stress from school. I want to see students with a big smile and not see them sad all day. My path through God was once when I was really in a bad place, I saw God in my thoughts speaking to me about not to worry about today because tomorrow would be a better day for me, and God was right. I felt no more sadness and just felt joy. Thank you for reading my article may God bless you.

For a follower of Jesus, water baptism by immersion is a defining step of faith in obedience to His command and in His example. It is not a condition but an evidence of salvation.

Baptism at LFCC is open to all ages subject to attendance of a Baptism Preparation Class with a Pastor and parents' permission for children under 18 years of age.

If you would like to take the next step and be water baptised, contact us today.
