DEPUTY PRINCIPAL'S REPORT
At Lighthouse Christian College we have a zero tolerance for child abuse, and we strive to always do what's best for our students and protect them from anything that could harm them. We believe that everyone has the right to feel and be safe and therefore, the safety and wellbeing of each person in our school community is incredibly important to us.
As part of our commitment to child safety, we're proud to follow the guidelines given by the Victorian Government in Ministerial Order 1359. This isn’t just a set of rules; it’s a commitment to creating a place where everyone feels respected, valued, and most importantly, safe.
The 11 Child Safe Standards which LCC adheres to are:
These standards support the development of a culture where protecting children from abuse is part of everyday thinking and practice and everyone in our school community, including teachers, students and parents are responsible for making sure everyone is safe and happy at school. Therefore, we encourage you to read our Child Safe policies on our website and continue to give us feedback on areas where we can improve. You will also receive more information on what we are doing and how you can support in the coming months as we continue to place a priority in this area of the school.
Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Matthew 19:14
Yours in His service

WELLBEING &TECHNOLOGY
Anti-Bullying Week
Last week was our annual ‘Anti-Bullying Week’ at Lighthouse, and it was a great reminder about the importance of treating others well! From Prep to Year 11, each class participated in a week of homeroom activities that included discussion around defining bullying (including a Biblical view - Luke 6:31, Mark 12:31). Other homeroom activities included acting in roleplay scenarios, drafting school policy suggestions as well as writing letters of encouragement to other classmates.
As for Secondary Chapel, we were privileged to hear from a couple of Victoria Police representatives! Being authority figures, they were able to share on the implications bullying has not only at school but in a legal sense (particularly if it becomes quite serious). It was overall an encouragement to the students to be careful how they interact, and to always treat others with respect!
We also want to say a big thank you to the Townsville YWAM (Youth With A Mission) team for coming to do lunchtime activities on Thursday & Friday! Lots of fun/great discussions were had by all. We pray that the week has prompted everyone at Lighthouse to reflect on the way we treat others, and encouraged a culture of Spirit-filled values!!

CARPENTRY
Many students took great interest and spent time working at the carpentry table. With the teacher’s supervision they learnt how to use a real hammer, nails, and wood safely to make things from their creative ideas. Woodworking activity empowered young children to enhance their: hand-eye coordination (hammering), creative thinking, fine motor skills, strengthening finger muscles, hands for writing, problem solving, patience and concentration, math through engineering skills, measurements and size. Great effort!
PREP SWIMMING
This term the preps went swimming at Toby Haenan swim school. The swimming program has been an excellent way to develop skills and encourage safety around water. Students enjoyed the change in routine and had a lot of fun.

PRIMARY - YEARS 3 - 6
We celebrated Anti-Bullying Week at Lighthouse Christian College last week, students across primary watched videos, engaged in discussions, role plays and various activities during homeroom to learn about bullying, and cultivating an anti-bullying culture in school.
At LCC, we have a zero tolerance for bullying, and we encourage our students not to be bystanders but to stand up for each other and report if they witness bullying. Students were also reminded to live according to the Scriptures:
“But to you who are willing to listen, I say, love your enemies! Do good to those who hate you. Bless those who curse you. Pray for those who hurt you. If someone slaps you on one cheek, offer the other cheek also. If someone demands your coat, offer your shirt also. Give to anyone who asks; and when things are taken away from you, don’t try to get them back. Do to others as you would like them to do to you.” Luke 6:27-31 NLT

MAD ABOUT SCIENCE ELECTRICITY INCURSION
This term, Year 6 students are investigating the transfer and transformation of electrical energy. They are also working together to assess their investigations and work safely. The students enjoyed our electricity incursion, where they built circuits and became part of a "human circuit".

SECONDARY
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit." Romans 15:13
Friday, October 13 held a special significance for the graduating class of 2023, marking the final official day of their secondary school journey as Year 12 students. The day commenced with a unique breakfast gathering, where students donned colourful costumes alongside their teachers. They had the opportunity to participate in a tree-planting ceremony and bid farewell to their peers at Lighthouse.
Subsequently, it was time for the formal farewell. An assembly was organised specifically for the year 12 students, with the presence of their parents. During this assembly, the students' remarkable achievements were recognised and they were blessed as they set out on a new chapter of their lives. Outstanding performers in their VCE studies received trophies and certificates as a tribute to their hard work.
I would like to extend my heartfelt commendations and congratulations to the remarkable class of 2023. Your resilience and unwavering persistence throughout your academic journey are truly commendable.
Moreover, I want to express my deep appreciation to all the parents of the Year 12 graduates who have been an integral part of the Lighthouse Community. Many of you have been on this journey with your children since their early years, from Kinder or Prep, and you continue to be a crucial part of our community.
Congratulations once again to the Year 12 class of 2023! You have successfully reached this important milestone, and your future endeavours undoubtedly hold great promise.
God Bless,
Mrs Reena Thomas

Year 10C Homeroom Report
“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. “John 13:34
10C has two homeroom teachers for 2023. Mr Broadbridge on Mondays and Mr Norng from Tuesday to Friday. This year began a vibrant journey of getting to know one another, between teachers and students as well as students to students. Year 10C began a vibrant journey of getting to know one another through sharing and praying together. At the beginning of each homeroom session, we begin with a prayer. At the beginning of each term, the orders of prayer were randomly selected using a computer algorithm, programmed in R (a programmable language used in maths/stats) by Mr Norng.
After a few weeks of homeroom, students began to open-up and new friendships formed on top of old ones. A strong sense of community was developed as we move from one term to the next. This culminated in 10C winning the “heaviest boxes” in the dry food drive for charity organised by the Year 12s lead by school captain, Matthew Thai. This reflected the true characters of students in 10C: gentle, humble and kind. The love they have for the community and each other is further reflected in birthday celebrations for students who happen to have their birthdays falling on school days. This month was Tiya Joseph’s birthday. She turned 16 on Friday 20 October. The class celebrated with a birthday cake, some small gifts and joyfully sang a birthday song for her. We plan to end the year with a big class party, having missed Term 2 and 3 consecutively. It has been an honour and a privilege to have spent the last year with these students. In the space of less than a year, I have watched them mature into the fine young men and women that they are today. I look forward to seeing their progress as they venture into Year 11 and beyond.

Summer Café- VCE-Vocational Major
In week 4 of Term 4 the VCE-VM students launched our much- awaited Summer Café for secondary students. It is a fantastic initiative that forms an integral part of the Vocational Major program with emphasis on work related skills.
Students have been planning the ideas for this café from term 2 alongside with Ms. Agesa who initiated this idea. Behind the scenes the team has been working on all areas to ensure it is a fulfilling experience. They all have worked on deciding what should be on the menu, how to promote it and how to work towards running a smooth and successful café.
On 24/10/23 students started the Summer Café and we were fortunate to receive a huge turnout. It was a successful day and students worked well as a team to ensure all students received their orders in a timely manner and overall, it did showcase employability skills which was the intend of running the summer café.
This café is running for secondary students only and if you haven’t yet come to the summer café it will run on Tuesdays and Thursday during lunch time with pre orders via a jot form a day before and via cash or card on the day the café is running. The orders are being collected from the back of Zenith window- VCE-VM Café window.
To facilitate the ordering process, I have attached the jot form link.

Your enthusiastic support and participation in this initiative will contribute to a successful Summer Café experience for our Applied Learning students. Let’s make
this Summer Café a great learning experience for our students. Thank you for supporting the summer café.
