PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

We are coming to the end of another fantastic term! I sincerely hope that your child has enjoyed an enriching and rewarding term learning together with their peers. In my regular visits to the classrooms, I observe God’s constant presence in the College in teaching and nurturing our students and for this I am thankful. His abundant grace is shown through the lives of our students in how they relate to their friends and staff members.
As a parent/guardian, you are playing an important role in helping your child become a God-fearing person. May the Lord grant us wisdom and direction in how we can support your child in the years ahead.
Last week, we had a meaningful Year 10 Blessing Night, an important event in our College where parent/guardian releases their child into adulthood. Prayers and encouraging words were given to the students and they were charged with the responsibility of caring for their loved ones and people within their immediate community. I am thankful for the good turnout from the students’ families in supporting the students and staff members during the event. As the event ended off quite early, attendees were given the opportunity to dance and mingle. It was a great event bringing the community together!

WE WANT OUR PARENTS TO TELL US WHAT THEY THINK!
Christian Schools Australia (CSA) are excited to announce that the 2023 Christian Schools Community Profile: Parent Survey is now open for all parents of our College to complete. This is the only national survey of its kind that is specifically designed for Christian school communities and seeks to gather key information regarding the perceptions, levels of satisfaction and priorities of Christian school families as well as their demographic profiles and the way families engage, support and interact with their local Christian school communities. It will be conducted amongst all families with children enrolled in participating Christian schools.
We would like to encourage all parents to complete this important survey which will be conducted online and will only takes 15-20 minutes to complete. The survey can be accessed through the link that you will have received via SETQA DM and email from the College.
All responses to the survey are anonymous. The survey will be conducted from Wednesday 30 August to Friday 22 September 2023.

WELLBEING &TECHNOLOGY
1 Corinthians 13:13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
R U OK? DAY a national day of action dedicated to reducing Australia’s high suicide rate. It’s a day that fits naturally with our calling as Christians to care for each other and those around us. On R U OK? DAY, Thursday 14 September, all Australians are encouraged to ask family, friends and colleagues “Are you ok?”, to take responsibility for people in their lives who may be struggling and need an opportunity to say “I’m not ok” to those they love. This year’s RUOK? theme is ‘I’m here to hear’.
At Lighthouse we encourage our students to have good wellbeing and look out for others who might need to see God’s love in action through them. We understand that this needs to happen every day, not just on RUOK Day. But, what a great opportunity this provided us to promote our school values and finish Term 3 on a high! This week students participated in age-appropriate RUOK? Day activities to learn how they can notice others who might be struggling and how to have a conversation. Secondary students had an opportunity to engage in RUOK? as part of the Term 3 Christian Studies Day. Primary students enjoyed presentations in Chapal and homerooms, fun lunchtime activities, such as making posters and displays, O-themed outdoor activities and a photo booth, culminating in eating donuts, to remind us of the ’O’ in RUOK.
Let’s do what we can to have conversations that can help one another.

PRIMARY - ELC - YEAR 2
Police Officers Visit The Kindergarten
One of the Light Group 2 parents, who is a police officer, visited the kindergarten with one of his colleagues. They brought the police car to the school and the kindergarten children had opportunities to talk to them and have a look inside the police car. The children were very excited to see police officers in their uniforms and different equipment inside the police car. The children had an opportunity to meet with other community workers and they extended their knowledge and connection with the wider community.

ZOO EXCURSION
The Preps had an adventurous day at the Zoo, where they transformed into wild explorers, eagerly discovering the fascinating world of animals and nature. Their enthusiasm and curiosity made the trip a memorable learning experience for our Preps.

PRIMARY - YEARS 3 - 6
The Year 6 students have been using technologies including graphical representation techniques to communicate. They have represented plans for boats in forms such as models, drawings, and diagrams to illustrate the development of designed solutions. They produced annotated drawings to illustrate how origami boats are made.
The students enjoyed working collaboratively to make and test boats, including criteria for success (boats had to carry a large number of marbles). They kept design tasks safe, adjusting tasks accordingly. The students identified and maintained safety standards and practices when making designed solutions.

YEAR 5 INCURSION
The Year 5 students got to participate in a Design Technologies incursion. They were given different materials to trial in teams and experiment with building tall towers. Students had to use their communication and creative skills in designing strong structural towers. They loved creating their own catapults using spoons, blue tack, dow and small balls of foam, and aiming to throw them into cups. The students were challenged to be proactive in problem solving, such as developing a bridge that can withstand large weight. It was a wonderful experience for our Year 5 students to propel their learning in design technology! Well done to our awesome students!

As Christians, we should always live our lives showing values of honesty, trust, fairness, respect and responsibility. When a difficult circumstance occurs, we are faced with the challenge of acting with integrity. If you put others before yourself in any situation showing respect and kindness, it may help you in the future as others may do the same to you.
In the same way, we show integrity to everyone around us, it is vital we show integrity to God. We can show integrity to God by being truthful and the best version of ourselves every day. By doing this, God sees our hearts and knows our true motives. Make sure you show integrity to your peers, teachers and everyone you meet!

Year 10 B Homeroom
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. (Proverbs 9:10)
This year, Year 10 B Homeroom students began their academic journey by proclaiming this beautiful promise from the Bible. By the grace of God, some of our 10 B Homeroom students represented our college in several sports contests this year, winning medals, and Honors. Our Homeroom was recently awarded the best Homeroom in all the Year 10 Cohorts during our Blessing Night; this night also marked a significant aspect of this year's Homeroom experience for 10 B Homeroom students.
Our Father God has indeed rained His blessing onto our Homeroom thus far this year, and we give Him all the glory, honour, and praise in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
