EARLY LEARNING CENTRE
TREASURE HUNT
The children have been learning about Aboriginal art and symbols. This learning was extended to an outdoor activity and a treasure hunt set up by the teachers. They were divided into four groups. Four students in a group and one student who would be the captain. Each group was given a big card with the various Aboriginal patterns. When the game started, the children went around the playground to look for the hidden in dividual small cards to match all on the big card.
This activity empowered students to: work as a team and talk each other, enhance their observations skills, think creatively and imaginatively to complete their group task. They had fun and laughter in cheering for their team and peers!
BEAM
100 DAYS OF PREP
The Preps celebrated their 100th day at school. They had lots of fun dressing as if they were 100 years old and making 100 day cookies.

NAVIGATE
CHRISTIAN STUDIES
I have had the privilege of teaching Christian Studies (CST) for Navigate at Lighthouse this year, and it has been so good to see the Year 5 to Year 7s growing in knowledge of the Bible, who Jesus is, their identity and also just asking fantastic questions!
Across Year 5 to Year 6 we have been looking at big questions in life such ‘Are some people too bad to forgive?’ and ‘Can anything stop the spread of the Gospel?’ We’ve also had the opportunity for class forums where students can ask their own big questions about life/faith/God/the Bible, with students responding to their classmates and then concluding with looking at what the Bible says.
As for the Year 7s we’ve been exploring a variety of topics such as Creation, ‘Who is Jesus?’, forgiveness and more. We’ve also had opportunities for class discussions with the Year 7s as well, so I’m really pumped to see the growth and learning taking place!
Thanks to all the Navigate students for making our classes entertaining and the conversations robust. God has great plans for every one of you, so go for it!!

Before Jesus’ crucifixion, Jesus humbly washed his disciples’ feet despite being the Son of God. He said, “So if I, your Lord, and teacher, have washed your feet, you must wash each other’s feet.” (John 13:14)
In this scripture, we are reminded of Jesus’ genuine love and humility towards His disciples by washing their dirty feet during the last supper before Jesus’ crucifixion. Even though he was so highly regarded as ‘spiritual royalty’, he still represented true humility through his actions. He even washed Judas’ feet, one of His disciples who betrayed Him. Jesus knew this but continued to show loved towards him and serve him generously.
As followers of Christ, we should aim to follow Jesus’ example, and serve others in love with a generous heart - not to gain anything, but to simply do good for others and build each other up in humility and love. As John 13:15 says “For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you.”
Love is contagious so when you start to serve and love others, soon everyone else will start to serve, and carry out Jesus’ character too!

HOMEROOM 8C
On behalf of 8C, we want to show you what friendship means to us. We share strong bonds as a community in Lighthouse and we want to show an example of how friendships can empower a group of people to grow closer to each other no matter our differences.
When we look at the bible, John 15:12-13 says "My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends."
As a Homeroom, we love this verse because it shows how important friendship is even in the bible! God wants us to create an environment in which anyone can feel like they belong. We as a class feel that it is so important to treat our classmates and friends with respect and love just as God loves us. Let us use this as an opportunity to create new friendships!

ICAS SCIENCE COMPETITION 2022
Students in Years 5-10 are invited to participate in the ICAS Science Competition 2022. Payment is due Thursday 18th August. Students will compete in the competition on Wednesday 24th August.
