WE ARE FEELING COLD
Last week on Wednesday the children shared their excitement of seeing frost on their car at home. The whole discussion turned into a learning experience about “Arctic Animals”. We set up an activity table with a big block of ice and some Arctic animals, colours and sparkles in it. The children were given droppers and chisels to break the ice and take out the arctic animals from the ice. The children showed great interest and curiosity in exploring this sensory activity.
Children used their fine motor skills to break the ice with chisels and squeeze water with droppers. Children had opportunities to learn some of the arctic animals' names such as polar bears, penguins and huskies. They have been learning about their environment, nature and weather.
BEAM
Our Beam classes were excited to have Mr Dickson and his robots back again at the start of Term 3. Mr Dickson has a long association with helping our students (and teachers) get started and progress in their coding and STEM development. This time around, our students had a robotics ‘mash up’. They took two different robotics platforms – LEGO Wedo and Wonder’s Dash Bot – trying to create champion battle bots with spinning attack programs and repeating drive functions.
What an awesome way to kick off Term 3!

YEAR 6B HOMEROOM
Over the last 2 years I have been blessed with watching this unique cohort of students pass from the end of Year 4, to almost the beginning of Year 7. The class of 6B have a wide range of students with a mixture of talents, interests, strengths and challenges. Each morning I consider devotions with my students as a unique and irreplaceable time to develop our bonds and grow our relationships as a team.
Year 6 is a monumental time in each child’s life – this is the age where students begin truly developing a sense of independence and resilience within
themselves. Likewise, they are also starting to question their purpose and where their God given talents may take them. Each week we connect in the
following ways:
· Each Monday we discuss and unpack the value of the month and what this means for us as individuals.
· Each Wednesday students are given time for ‘popcorn prayer’. This is a chance for students to collaboratively communicate their prayer points authentically and purposefully.
· Each Friday students are given the opportunity to consider and debate current world issues and what this means from both a Christian, and secular, worldview.
I feel truly grateful to have watched this cohort develop thus far. I hope I can continue to see them grow in Christ and teach them in each
school year of their future.

COMMUNITY SERVICE - BEAM READING
Greetings to the Lighthouse Community, my name is Joshua Jansen, and I am the SRC representing 8B.
In our homeroom, we have decided to voluntarily engage in servicing the community by helping students from Beam by reading enlightening books to them. This helps their developing young minds to learn a plethora of skills that are essential for success in life. These critical skills include focus, empathy and communication. Furthermore, reading can reduce stress, improve your mental health, and help you live a much longer life.
Our audacious homeroom is very passionate about this fundamental cause because we want to help students in the school have the best foundation to flourish. It was extremely encouraging to see the smiles on the adorable preps' faces whenever we walked into that classroom, as they are ready to get lost in an adventure in the book with us.
Whilst we were on a mission to nurture children's tender minds we found out that this experience helped us too. This is because the preps were so grateful for little things such as having a buddy read them their favourite book. Their smiles helped us see that we can find joy and happiness in the smallest things regardless of our age or circumstances. This was an enriching experience overall.

FRIENDSHIP
It’s good to have a plethora of friends, but there comes a time where we ask ourselves how close are we to many of them? How do you know that you have made good friends? It can be difficult to discern at times. Oftentimes we can feel like an extra piece in a set, like we are not required and are just substitutes, but God has a purpose and plan for all of us. Even if we don’t belong in a particular set, we’ll always have a use in another set, it’s all about finding the right people and the right environment. It can be challenging and hard to transition from one group or another, particularly the fear of having to start over again, only for it to be a brief reprieve and another abrupt end. But it is always far more worthwhile if it means that you'll thrive in a better place surrounded by people that do care for you.
But you will know when you have good friends if they are willing to support you, listen to you, talk to you, are honest with you, and are there for you. Of course, this goes without saying that it is a two-sided relationship, give and you shall receive, put in effort and it’ll flourish. It is always good to have friends that you can call close to you and will help pull you through times of hardship.
So, let us conclude and pray on these two scriptures:
"Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.“ 1 Thessalonians 5:11
"Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you". Colossians 3:13
