DEPUTY PRINCIPAL'S REPORT
Children are a precious gift from God. As adults, we have the privilege and responsibility to care for them, pray for their protection and safety, and for them to live the full and abundant life God desires for them. At Lighthouse Christian College, the safety and wellbeing of our students is our top priority. I would like to take this opportunity to highlight some of the measures we have in place to ensure a child-safe environment at our school.
First and foremost, we have a comprehensive Child Safe Policy which outlines our commitment to preventing child abuse and neglect and sets out clear procedures for reporting and responding to any concerns. All staff members and volunteers undergo training in child safety and are required to adhere to our Policy and Code of Conduct.
In addition, we have implemented a range of measures to promote a safe and inclusive school culture. These include the use of positive behaviour support strategies, anti-bullying programs, and opportunities for student voice and participation in decision-making processes.
We also have a number of practical measures in place to ensure the physical safety of our students. All visitors are required to sign in and wear identification badges while on site, our classrooms and facilities are regularly inspected to ensure they meet health and safety standards, and we have emergency procedures in place to respond to any incidents.
Finally, we recognise the important role that parents and caregivers play in creating a safe and supportive environment for our students. We encourage open communication and welcome any feedback or concerns you may have.
In closing, I want to reassure you that Lighthouse Christian College is committed to creating a safe and nurturing environment for all of our students. We believe that by working together, we can help ensure that every child in our care is able to thrive and reach their God given potential.
Matthew 18:5: "And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me".
Yours in His service.

WELLBEING
The Influence of Friends
Friends are such a large and important part of school. You see your school friends for around 7 hours during the day, 5 days a week. That’s excluding the hours you might spend talking to friends over the phone or messaging them. There are so many great benefits that come with having good friends, such as a boost in happiness, self-confidence, self-worth, and sense of belonging. Good friends can keep us grounded, help us through tough times and hold us accountable when need be.
There is no doubt that friends are one of the biggest influences in our lives. Have you ever unconsciously started saying a phrase that one of your friends use in their daily vocabulary? Or started to like the same music or TV shows that your friends like? The influence of friends on our thoughts, attitude and behaviour is not only backed up by scientific research, but it’s also spoken about in the Bible. The phrase “bad company corrupts good character” is not simply just a phrase, they are the wise words of Paul in 1 Corinthians (1 Corinthians 15:33). Just as negative friends leave a negative influence, positive friends leave a positive influence, which can significantly impact mental wellbeing. Who are your friends? Are they people who encourage you? People who make you a better person? If friends have such a large influence in our life, then it’s important we are careful with who we let into our heart. Therefore, choose your friends wisely!

LIGHTHOUSE ELC PARENT INFORMATION NIGHT
The Lighthouse ELC Parent Information Evening was a great success and many parents from the 3 year old and 4 year old kindergarten attended. It was a privilege to have Mr Wing Leong, our College Principal, come to welcome and meet the parents.
They were happy to meet him and the ELC teachers and learn more information and about ways to support their children in their early learning and development in the ELC.
PREP - 2 SWIMMING
This week the Year 1 and 2 students went to Toby Haenen Swimming Centre in Chelsea, for their yearly swimming lessons. The swimming instructors were brilliant with our students and with God’s grace we finished the week on a high note by receiving icy poles. What a wonderful opportunity and experience!

Technology faculty update
We are pleased to announce the new member of our Technology faculty team: Valerie Oo who has recently joined us as a Laboratory Technician. Valerie has a wealth of experience organizing and planning projects credit to her previous employment in pharmaceutical industry. We look forward to employing her expertise to continue to provide excellent education and best opportunities to the students at Lighthouse Christian College. We trust that our students will be pushed to think critically and creatively; to collaborate and communicate their ideas as well as to grow in their Christian character through all that we have to offer.
Time passes so quickly, and 3 weeks of Term 1 has gone with the wind. Our Year 9/10 Product Design students have just begun their journey of Adobe Illustrator exploration. As a Lighthouse student picking this elective, the students have free and unlimited access to Adobe suite that allows them to start designing in all the
platform that Adobe offers. We urge parents to encourage their children in learning how to use the platform independently and to seek advice from their teacher if they require any assistance.
As for our Year 7 students in Makerspace, they have been busy with researching and conceptualizing their Stop Motion Animation concept based around the idea of Nature or our theme of the year ‘God is Our Foundation’. The Year 7 Makerspace teachers have witness wonderful conversations and great teamwork in their planning of the project. They will continue their project after the Year 7 camp in Week 4. We trust that the students are excited and wish them all the best during their trip away. We do hope to provide further details about this project with some examples of student work in the next update provided by the Technology faculty.

Year 9 Homeroom, with Mrs Shipston
We have been enjoying getting into the swing of things for the year, under the banner of Christ is our foundation. During our homeroom morning times we have been hearing from the Word of God around this theme … and last week we read from Galatians 6:2 “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”
We unpacked the meaning behind this to help us understand our responsibility in bearing someone’s burdens. Surely, we can’t take on all of someone else’s worries as our own! Here’s a good analogy: We can think of burdens as either backpack burdens or suitcase luggage burdens.
Backpack burdens are those things that we can talk about, pray about and maybe help out with – they are not too heavy for us to carry in addition to our own burdens. Suitcase burdens are bigger issues another person has, and whilst we can lend a listening ear, offer prayer, some assistance and help our brother or sister manage for a time, we are not required to own their burden as ours. In this way we can best serve the Lord.

Year 12A: Community
Students were asked to reflect on what community means to them and they came up with these inspiring words of wisdom.
Chudier Dol: Community to me means unity, working together as a team to provide the best possible outcome and bringing people together to support each other in overcoming any obstacles. Community is also feeling a sense of belonging and connection with others. John chapter 15 Verse 12-13 says “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.
Kyra Francis: Community means living together with everyone around us in harmony and helping each other out, including those we don't know. We can improve community by taking initiative and having the courage to help others and be kind.
Angela Koumis: Community means being kind to each other, helping each other out whenever needed and trying and be inclusive of all the people around you.
Eric Guov: Proverbs 27:17 As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.
Joshua Carreon: A community is a group of people who share interests and attitudes as well as support each other. People in a community feel a sense of belonging and comfort.
Elliana Ebert: Community is when people come together to support each other and grow together to become better people or to achieve a goal/purpose. “How good and pleasant it is when God's people live together in unity!” - Psalm 133:1 (NIV)
Brooklyn Khean: With community we can discover our place in the body of Christ. We also learn to serve out of love, honor and respect. And in community, we receive the healing and love that can only come from those who share in the same spirit. Acts 2:42-47
Josiah Ly: Romans 12:5 ‘So in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.’ Community is when people with a common goal or mindset come together and grow together.
Ivy Ho: A community is a group of people that share one or more characteristics in which they are able to identify and interact with each other. Communities can also be used for individuals to have an identity and for friendship. “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfil the law of Christ.” Galatians 6:2
Angelina Mai: Community is essential for our growth and well-being as individuals. When we come together in a spirit of love and support, we can accomplish great things and encourage one another to be our best selves. The Bible emphasizes the importance of community, encouraging us to "bear one another's burdens" and to "spur one another on toward love and good deeds" (Galatians 6:2).
