Value of the Month - Excellence
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”
Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.
2 Corinthians 12:9

Sustainability
We took care of our veggie patch as we removed a few weeds and watered the plants. In preparation for summer we planted some summer vegetables like corn and tomatoes. In the coming weeks, we are looking forward to removing some of the winter vegetables and have them for morning tea.
BEAM
The Beam Captains have done an amazing job this year in their leadership. “I love being a Beam Captain. When you are a Beam Captain, you have to be able to speak loudly and clearly in front of people. The part I love about being a Beam Captain is speaking publicly in Chapel. I also love helping others when they really need it. If you are trying out to be a captain, I recommend you to look forward to having lots of fun with Mrs Kruize and the school community. I am sure you will love it!” Diyoni Hirimuthugoda
“What I enjoyed the most about being the Beam Captain was looking after my class and helping others. I have learnt many things about leadership. I have learnt a lot about being a role model. My advice to anyone wanting to be in leadership, listen to Mrs Kruize, do your job and have fun.” Revin Rajapakse

Inter-House Events 2022
This year, we saw the resumption of Inter-House events that were sorely missed the past 2 years. For the Year 5 to 10s, the House events this year are as listed in the table below. This year eSport is added to the list in preparation for Lighthouse’s participation in the CSEN eSport competition in 2023. House eSport is played on the Rocket League platform. This year, the event was held over 2 lunches and it was amazing to see students displaying so much teamwork, strategising to outplay the other teams. The winner of the first House eSport goes to Luther (Nathan Singh, Luke Hastings and Manny Nyawelo) and the Most Valuable Player goes to Manny.
A huge thanks to Mr Buck, Mr Eddison and the VCAL students for making this event happen. We hope that eSport will continue to be a feature on our College calendar every year.

LAUNCH
Exams are just around the corner and memories of endless hours of studying for past exams hits harder than an 80’s trend. I want to particularly focus on studying since its quite applicable to us considering that exams are coming up, and studying is something that is all on our minds. As important as studying topics for an exam is, its also incredible important to understand that with anything, there is always a balance. You cannot eat pizza and fast food every day and expect to lose weight, and just like that, you cannot spend 30 minutes studying and expect to get 100% on an exam.
The truth is, everyone has the same chance of scoring high 90% in their test, but only a few manage to do so because only a few put in the work. Work equals results. Anyone can achieve amazing results, but not everyone accepts that it’ll take hard work. As Galatians 6:9 says, “And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.” It is going to be difficult to remain persistent in studies, but if you do not give up, you will gather the rewards that the Lord has for you. This is not only applicable to studies, but all aspects in life, if you have a goal you have got to work hard to achieve success in that goal.

ZENITH
As the College Captains for 2023, Excellence to us means to go above and beyond and put in the extra work. Every day of Jesus’ life, he worked towards impacting people’s lives for the better as he was working for the Kingdom of Heaven. In Colossians 3:23 it says “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters”. As servants of the Lord, one of our goals is to serve our community with excellence. Everyday everyone is given the opportunity to set themselves apart from the standard of mediocrity and as captains we want to take this opportunity to reshape the journey we are on for the better. Excellent leadership is about serving the community with integrity, good morals and a Christ like heart.
Just as we as captains have ambitions, so do all of us and with this, we must make sure that these ambitions and goals are in line with God’s plan for us and whether we are successfully achieving them or not, and if not, how can we ask God to become excellent in our work?

RMIT TERTIARY EXPERIENCE
Our RMIT visit was a great way to gain an overview of their post secondary offerings and tour the city campus. It was a very informative and engaging experience. -Monique
“When we went to RMIT, there was a competition to see which group took the best photo. I was amazed how different the structure of the building is compared to our school. There were many good spots around RMIT for taking photos, but my friend, Hasandi had this idea of taking a photo from the top of the stairs looking down, turns out to be the best photo taken.” John N
Work experience
I got a chance to learn how to work in a Science Lab and my work colleagues gave me tips not just in terms of education, but also life lessons, something I am very grateful for. I now have some experience working in science and I am even more motivated to study and get a career in it. – Brandon
Work experience really gave me a deeper understanding of what working in the real world is all about, the earlier wake up times, the harder the work and smaller breaks. This experience has better prepared me for my future and a better understanding of what being a member of the workforce feels like. –Lewis
Alongside another classmate, I did my first work placement with the principal solicitor at D.G Family Law. We engaged in many activities throughout the week, that were designed to broaden our understanding of work in the legal profession. The solicitor served as a good mentor to us, sharing many of his own experiences from his days as a law student and sharing with us advice that we can apply to our own journeys. Overall, it was one of my most memorable experiences, and has given me an insight as to the kind of profession I want in the future. - Cristina
