DEPUTY PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

As we begin a new term, I would like to welcome all members of our LCC community back. I trust that the term break provided an opportunity for rest, renewal and time with family. We look forward to all that God has in store for us this term.

This week’s theme is empowerment. At its heart, empowerment is about recognising that each of us has been uniquely created by God with gifts, purpose and the capacity to make a meaningful difference. For our students, this means taking ownership of their learning, showing courage in their character and using their voice in ways that build others up. As a community, we want to nurture our young people who are, not only confident in who they are, but who are also committed to serving others with humility and integrity.

This week, we take time to reflect on Anzac Day, which we will commemorate through our Primary and Secondary assemblies. Anzac Day reminds us of the courage, sacrifice and service of those who have given so much for our nation. There is a powerful connection here to our theme of empowerment; true empowerment is not about self-promotion, but about the willingness to stand for something greater than ourselves. As we reflect, we encourage our students to consider how they too can live lives marked by courage, service and gratitude.

Finally, I would like to remind our families about the importance of being considerate when using the roads around our school during drop-off and pick-up times. We are part of a wider community and these roads are shared with local residents. Recently, some of our neighbours have raised concerns about vehicles stopping across driveways and preventing residents from safely entering or exiting their homes.

We ask all drivers to please:

· Avoid stopping directly across residential driveways

· Allow residents to enter or exit where possible, particularly when traffic is stationary

· Remain aware that this is a shared public road and act with courtesy and patience

Your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated and reflects the respect and care we seek to model as a school community.

We look forward to a positive and purposeful term ahead as we continue to grow together.

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”

2 Timothy 1:7

Yours in His service,

David Holloway

WELLBEING

Everyday Wellbeing Habits

We’ve loved welcoming students back to Lighthouse after the holidays and seeing our classrooms full of energy again. At school, we’re continuing to support student wellbeing through our Personal Development lessons, regular teacher check-ins and pastoral care, as well as opportunities like lunchtime groups and buddy programs that help students feel connected and supported.

At home, small, consistent actions can make a big difference to your child’s wellbeing. A simple after-school check-in – such as “What was something that made you smile today?” or “Was there anything tricky?” – can lead to more meaningful conversations than a quick “How was your day?” If your child is reluctant to talk, side-by-side moments (like driving, walking, or drawing together) can often feel less pressured and lead to more natural conversations.

Creating gentle routines also helps children feel secure. This might look like a regular wind-down time before bed, packing school bags together the night before, or sharing a few minutes reading, talking or praying together. These don’t need to be perfect or time-consuming – consistency matters more than length.

Wellbeing isn’t about getting everything right – it’s about building small, supportive habits over time. These everyday moments of connection and routine help our wonderful LCC children feel safe, confident, and ready to learn. We look forward to continuing to partner with you in supporting your child’s wellbeing.

ANZAC Day Chapel

Our Lighthouse Christian College Keysborough Primary students gathered reverently for a special ANZAC Chapel on Friday 24th April, taking time to honour and remember the courage and sacrifice of those who have served our country. We were privileged to welcome a guest speaker from the Australian Defence Force, Ps Jeremiah, who shared a powerful message about the bravery of the ANZAC soldiers. He spoke about the deep sacrifice made by these men, drawing a meaningful connection to the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus, who gave His life for others. His words encouraged our students to reflect on courage, service, and selflessness.

The service was marked by moments of deep respect and reflection, including a solemn period of silence where students thoughtfully remembered those who have fallen. We stood together to sing the National Anthem with pride, followed by the moving sound of The Last Post, which brought a quiet stillness across the gathering. It was a meaningful and memorable chapel that helped our students understand the significance of ANZAC Day and the importance of gratitude for the freedoms we enjoy today.

PRIMARY - Years 3 - 6

Welcome back to Term 2!

The Primary Visual Arts team has been busy preparing an exciting and creative term for our students. As a team, we’ve been working hard to plan engaging experiences for everyone. We’re both looking forward to Open Classroom later in the term. An opportunity to celebrate the wonderful artwork students have been creating.

As we begin the term, we also commemorate ANZAC Day. As part of the Lighthouse ANZAC Day service, students have contributed to a large wreath. While creating their poppies, they explored the significance of ANZAC Day, different ways it is commemorated, and its importance to Australians. We also discussed symbols and symbolism, and how these connect to both ANZAC Day and visual arts.

Each student created an individual poppy, which were then combined into a whole-school wreath. It was wonderful to see the thoughtful discussions and engagement during this process.

While creating their poppies, students focused on the following elements and principles of art:

Junior students: line, pattern, and shape

Senior students: line, pattern, shape, space, balance, and unity

Year 11 & 12 Art Excursion – Top Arts 2026/ACCA

At the beginning of this term, Year 11 and 12 Art Making and Exhibiting students visited the Top Arts 2026 exhibition, along with the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art (ACCA). This excursion supports students in their VCE studies by providing insight into high achieving student work. Students examined folios and final artworks to better understand creative processes and documentation. They also explored contemporary exhibitions and gallery spaces, developing their understanding of presentation and curatorial practices.

Career Spotlight Egan Brown #51

Egan Brown is a gentle giant - kind, respectful and a great presence in our community. On the field, however, he’s known for his strength, determination and fierce competitiveness. Egan is currently undertaking VCE VM and has recently been selected for the Victorian State team in American football and has travelled interstate to compete, where he continues to impress.

Prior to this, he was offered a Developmental Scholarship to the University of Hawaii - an incredible achievement but is now exploring career pathways in the Police Force or Youth Justice. Egan also has a strong desire to be an ambassador and positive role model for the Indigenous community.

We wish Egan all the best as he continues to pursue the plans and purposes God has planned for his life!

Year 12 Activity Day

During Week 2 our wonderful Year 12 students spent the day out and enjoyed time together as a cohort. The day began at Pentridge Prison, where students worked in teams to complete an escape room–style challenge. They collaborated and thought outside the box to solve complex puzzles and escape in the fastest time possible. Well done to Jacob, Leonka, Harrish, Jeremy, Mouy and Raf for escaping with the fastest time!!

Following the excitement from the prison, the group had lunch and spent the afternoon at the Royal Botanic Gardens, where we enjoyed visiting the Shrine of Remembrance, and strolling through the gardens. The day provided time to refresh and take a step away from the busy and stressful year. Please keep the cohort in prayer as they navigate this final year of high school, approach their end of year assessments and exams, and prepare for the pathways that are before them.

Many thanks,

Year 8 Puppetry Incursion

First day back of Term 2 all our Year 8 students took part in an interactive puppetry incursion. It explores the art of bringing characters to life through puppetry and performance. The workshop began with a short puppet show so students could see how characters look when they perform. They then moved on to the practical workshop where students learn about:

• How professional puppets are designed and built

• The fundamentals of puppet movement and characterisation

• Performance techniques used in stage and screen puppetry

• Working collaboratively to create engaging puppet performances

Students had the opportunity to handle and perform with professional puppets themselves. Larrikin Puppetry performed at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival this year and we were lucky to be able to have them come perform and share their knowledge and passion with us before heading back to Queensland.

Later that week students within their Drama classes were able to create their own Butcher Paper puppet and learn how to move their puppet with their team using the aspects of weight, single focus, and breath. Any interesting and engaging week within drama
