PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

Dear Parent/Guardian,

“Houston, we have a problem!”—this iconic phrase from the Apollo 13 mission marked a critical moment in space exploration. Originally intended to land on the moon, the mission turned into a life-threatening crisis after an explosion caused catastrophic damage, leading to a loss of oxygen and power. Despite this, the collective efforts of countless individuals—from flight directors to janitors—demonstrated remarkable teamwork. Their unwavering dedication and genuine collaboration, driven by a shared commitment to saving lives, ensured the astronauts’ safe return. This event, known as the “Most Successful Failure,” highlights how authentic teamwork—rooted in a common purpose and a genuine appreciation for every contribution—can overcome even the most daunting challenges.

The Apollo 13 mission teaches us that authenticity is built on collective trust, empathy, and shared responsibility. Success often hinges on selflessly working together toward a greater goal.

As a college, we strive to nurture these values in our students, equipping them with high emotional intelligence (EQ) to become authentic leaders. Parents and guardians also play a vital role in this journey. Celebrate moments when your children show kindness and empathy, reinforcing the importance of authenticity and emotional intelligence.

Let us remember the timeless wisdom: “So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.” - Matthew 7:12.

By embodying this principle, we foster a culture of authenticity, compassion, and mutual respect within the Lighthouse community.

WELLBEING

In Primary we have the opportunity Period 1 every Friday to have a chapels service. This term, we have had amazing opportunities to worship God and learned more about God in fun and exciting ways. Our student leaders are doing a great job leading chapels. We have celebrated class and students’ successes, learned more

about the books of the bible and explored our theme scripture in more detail. (Ephesians 4:1-6) Students have come to understand that God has a calling for them all, and that we can live it out by practicing humility, patience, gentleness and unity in the Spirit. A highlight for me is having students for the next week telling me what they have been doing to practice the things we have been learning in chapel services. It is always exciting for me to hear how students are encountering God and how they are changing to become the people they were created to be according to God’s word.

TECH FACULTY UPDATE

Dear LCC Community,

We had a successful year last year in the Technology space and would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Mr Sorn Norng for his dedication to the Food Studies area. Mr Norng has been instrumental in supporting various school initiatives related to food and provided students with invaluable opportunities to excel their passion. As a highly qualified Mathematics teacher, he will now be focusing on improving Numeracy at LCC. While we are sad to see him leave the Technology faculty, we wish him all the best in pursuing what he loves.

With this change, we are delighted to welcome Ms Marina Kaam to LCC and the Technology faculty. Ms Kaam holds an Advanced Certificate in Classical French Cuisine from Le Cordon Bleu Cookery School London and has extensive experience in teaching Food Studies in Melbourne secondary schools. We are confident that her expertise will enrich our students’ learning experiences and provide them with valuable skills and opportunities.

Time flies, and we have already completed the first round of continuous reporting. Students would have received their assessment result and feedback by now. If you have any questions or are interested in finding out more about what is happening in Technology for your students, please do not hesitate to reach out to the teachers, as listed in our new team chart below. Additionally, Parent-Teacher Conferences are scheduled for April 3rd and 4th – we encourage you to book in an interview with your child’s teacher to support their learning journey.

On another note, Ms Esther Wong will be going off on maternity leave at the end of this term. We are pleased to announce that Mr Christian Morabito will be stepping into the role of Head of Technology for the remainder of the year. Please be assured that ensuring a smooth transition and maintaining the quality of our programs remains a top priority for the school. We look forward to sharing more details about the exciting learning opportunities and showcasing student work in our next update.

In Christ,

and for the final time this year,

Ms Esther Wong

Teddy Bear Picnic - Prep

Our Prep students had a beary special day at the Teddy Bear Picnic! They brought their favourite teddies to school and spent the day making wonderful memories with them. Students enjoyed taking photos, sharing stories, and having a special outdoor lunch with their friends and cuddly companions. It was a delightful day filled with fun, laughter, and lots of teddy hugs!

Primary Years 3 - 6

Our Year 4 students had an unforgettable time at Mill Valley Ranch, soaking up the sunshine and embracing a jam-packed afternoon of adventure! From paddling through the water in canoes to horseback riding in the stables, tackling the low ropes course, testing their aim in archery, and even taking the plunge into the beautiful lake—every moment was filled with excitement.

Beyond the outdoor fun, students came together for a heartfelt night of worship on Thursday and a meaningful chapel service on Friday morning. It was a special experience, especially for those on their very first camp away from home. Their teamwork, courage, and enthusiasm shone throughout the trip, making it a truly memorable experience for all. Well done, Year 4!

SECONDARY

Digital/Emotional Regulation Workshop- Year 7

The workshop was one of the most memorable learning experiences I’ve had at LCC. During the session, I’ve learned many core features to having an organised schedule and a method to keep my online downloads and assignments safe in an attractive arrangement. Our instructor educated us on SEQTA, and its functions. Now that we are secondary students, we’d have to begin a healthy routine for each day with a schedule that cooperates with our study habits. Personally, as a participant, I am confident to announce that I am now an organised student at LCC that is ready to follow the destiny that God has granted me this year.

Moving on to the Emotional Regulation Workshop, this discussion was incredibly intriguing. We’ve revised on how to react in certain situations – a hot topic being conflict. Conflict, from what I have learned from the workshop, is when two or more people get into a disagreement. Usually, this would end badly if there was a lack of communication and forgiveness. I face conflict almost every day with my sister, so gaining an open mind on this issue helped me on how to deal with conflict properly.

Another subject we’ve discussed is to not get too comfortable with AI. AI is a function that was made to answer questions. It’s a new technology that was introduced recently and nowadays, students are ‘too comfortable’ with it. Whether it is for studying or for certain therapeutic sessions, this part of the seminar taught students not to get attached to AI. Instead, we should seek a trusted adult, parent or even a close friend if we ever need to pour out our feelings.

Now that being said, I’d like to thank the teachers and staff that arranged the discussion for us, as I felt that it really helped me to stay organised digitally and to regulate my thoughts & feelings regularly!

WESLEY WARRIORS

Hello, Lighthouse!

As we step into 2025, we are excited to lead Wesley Warriors into an incredible year of teamwork, school spirit, and success. As your House Captains, we Deng Agook and Dylan are passionate about creating a house where everyone feels encouraged, supported, and inspired to be their best.

I’m Deng, a national-level athlete, and I can’t wait to bring my experience and perseverance into this role. Sports have taught me the value of hard work, teamwork, and determination. As Captain, I want to inspire others to push their limits, support one another, and strive for excellence in everything they do. My leadership is driven by faith, and I am committed to creating an environment where every student feels valued and empowered.

Let’s make this year one to remember.

Exploring Science at Lighthouse Christian College Ms G classes

Our science students have been actively engaged in hands-on learning, exploring the wonders of God’s creation through practical investigations and critical thinking.

🔬 Year 7: Investigating Mixtures

Year 7 students have been discovering how different substances interact by exploring mixtures and separation techniques. Through experiments with filtration, evaporation, and chromatography, they have deepened their understanding of how mixtures can be separated into pure substances—revealing the order and complexity in God’s design of the natural world.

🌏 Year 9: Movement of Matter, Energy & the Albedo Effect

Our Year 9 students have been investigating the movement of matter and energy in ecosystems, particularly focusing on the Albedo effect and its impact on climate. By analyzing how surfaces absorb or reflect heat, they are gaining insights into global warming and environmental stewardship—aligning with our Christian responsibility to care for God’s creation.

🦠 Year 10: Growing Bacteria & Testing Antibiotics

In Year 10, students have been growing bacteria in the lab and testing the effectiveness of antibiotics. This exploration of microbiology has provided a fascinating insight into how medicines combat infections, reinforcing the significance of scientific advancements in healthcare and the importance of using knowledge responsibly for the benefit of humanity.

We are proud of our students' enthusiasm for science and their commitment to exploring God’s intricate world through inquiry and discovery. Stay tuned for more exciting learning updates!

Gravitate Leadership camp 2025

Dear Lighthouse Community,

From March 14th to 16th, the Year 11 students who undertake Gravitate sacrificed their weekend—and even work shifts—to embark on an unforgettable leadership camp, designed to challenge and equip them for growth in both faith and leadership.

One of the standout electives was "How to Give an Unforgettable Talk," where students learned practical techniques to communicate effectively—whether delivering a Bible study or preparing for future university presentations. Engaging, interactive, and insightful, this session helped them gain confidence and clarity in public speaking.

Beyond leadership training, students strengthened their faith through dedicated times of devotion and worship. They also had the opportunity to take on exciting activities like the Flying Fox at the Adventure Resort, adding to the fun and team spirit of the weekend.

Our Lighthouse students represented the college with professionalism and warmth, showing kindness to other groups and reflecting Christ-like character. The weekend brought new friendships, deeper faith, and lasting memories—an experience that will continue to shape their leadership journey.

"Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." — Matthew 5:16 (NIV)

House Athletics - Face painting initiative

Hi LCC students,

Our names are Caroline Zimmerman and Jennifer Thai, and we got the amazing opportunity to do a face painting stall on athletics day on 6 March 2025 set up at Ross Reserve, Noble Park. We were greeted by a wave of so many enthusiastic students and teachers! From delicate flowers and bold war stripes to house-coloured patterns, we loved bringing everyone’s ideas to life. Our favourite part was definitely seeing the excitement on everyone's faces as they showed off all their designs. We worked alongside Sarai from year 11-VM. We had a blast meeting so many people and adding an extra splash of colour to the day. Can't

wait to do it again next year!
