Value of the Month - Respect
But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at.
People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
1 Samuel 16:7

PRINCIPAL'S REPORT
In the season of thanksgiving and appreciation, we are always reminded of God’s faithfulness to our College. As we continue to embark on the journey of enriching students’ educational experiences, parents’ continuous support for their children and the College will enable us achieve even more goals in the future.
Through our daily devotions in class, Chapel services and Christian Studies lessons, it is our desire to inspire students to foster a deeper connection with God and build their relationship with Him on a daily basis. While learning from His Words, we hope that our students will establish their identity in Christ and know that He will never leave them nor forsake them through all seasons in their lives.
As part of our Child Safe practice reminder, it is important for parents to contact the Admin Office if their children are absent from school for the day. I would urge parents to drive carefully while on the school premises as there are young people walking around the campus to and from the Church Building.
I am certain many of us are looking forward to the Christmas season. Let’s remember the reason for the season!
Yours in Christ,
Mr Wing Leong
College Principal
WELLBEING & TECHNOLOGY
The school holidays are just around the corner, and it's the perfect time to think about how we can balance screen time and family time. We all love our devices, but it's important to make space for family fun too.
The Bible tells us that there's a time for everything. In Ecclesiastes 3:1, it says, "There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens." This reminds us that we should find the right time for technology and also the right time to be with our family.
Fun Family Activities:
1. Outdoor Adventures: Go outside for fun activities like hiking, picnics, or playing at the park. Nature is a beautiful place to be together.
2. Games and Puzzles: Play board games and do puzzles. It's a great way to have fun, think, and work together.
3. Arts and Crafts: Make art or crafts together. You can be creative and talk while doing it.
4. Read Together: Pick a book and read it as a family. This is a lovely way to spend time and use your imagination.
5. Cooking as a Team: Cook a meal together. It's not only about food but also working as a team.
6. Family Storytelling: Share stories from your life or make new ones together.
7. Help Others: Do something good for others as a family. This is a great way to learn about kindness and helping.
Screen Time Rules:
- Make a schedule for screen time each day or week and try to stick to it.
- Your child can earn screen time by doing chores or schoolwork.
- Keep screens out of bedrooms to sleep better.
In a nutshell, remember that technology is a tool, not a replacement for family time. Finding a balance is a good idea. It helps us build strong, loving family bonds. Let's make these school holidays a time to grow closer as a family. Enjoy each other's company and make the most of the moments you have together.

Our Australian Vegemite Day
This week we celebrated Vegemite Day, the thick, black, salty spread with a unique flavour that Australians love. It has been 100 years since the iconic Vegemite hit the shelves. We cooked Vegemite Scrolls, made toasts, and had the greatest picnic ever at the College's big Blue Playground.
PREP INCURSION
Black Snake Productions recently visited our school to engage our prep students in an eye-opening presentation about the declining wildlife in Australia. The young learners had the opportunity to learn about various species that are disappearing and the reasons behind their decline. They also discovered the inspiring projects aimed at conserving these species and discovered how they can play a part in helping our precious wildlife.

DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY
In Year 2 Design and Tech, students embarked on an exciting journey to discover the properties of various materials. Just like how God has a purpose behind all of His creations, the students harnessed their creativity and understanding of materials to design “puffer jackets aimed at keeping a bottle of water warm.

YEAR 5 LEADERSHIP INCURSION
On Wednesday 25 October, 2023 Year 5 had a Leadership incursion with Pastor Eric Agyeman. It was a wonderful introductory program to leadership in preparation for the 2024 school year. The Year 5 cohort were exposed to the notion that the journey ahead is one of connectedness and character development for the individual and as a year level.
It was engaging, interactive and designed to help the students have a positive mindset about serving and believing in themselves. It ended on the note of a positively charged affirmation ‘I am, I will and I can’ statement.
God bless.

Jesus: Our Excellent Role Model
As we begin to look back on the year 2023, it is with great joy and gratitude to acknowledge the many ways in which our school community has pursued excellence in education, service, and spiritual growth. This concept is deeply rooted in our Christian values. It goes beyond the pursuit of perfection; it’s about dedicating ourselves to becoming the best versions of ourselves in service to God and others.
Jesus is a living example of what it means to be a role model—someone who serves others with humility and love. During his earthly ministry, Jesus performed miraculous acts such as turning water into fine wine (John 2:10), dividing large crowds into groups (Luke 9:14), and crafting masterful speeches (Matthew 5-7). Everything that was accomplished through him was done proficiently that he ought to serve as our model so that we can develop our character to emulate Christ's selflessness.
As captains, we’ve had pleasure of both witnessing and experiencing the incredible support and unity within Lighthouse. Our endeavours have shown us that faith through our actions matter. Every task, no matter how big or small, is an opportunity to honour God. Whether it’s completing a school project, helping a friend in need, participating in a sports event – we can use our talents and abilities to maximise our potential, and ultimately, to honour God through the choices and actions we make.
Colossians 3:23 reminds us, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.” This verse encapsulates the Christian perspective on excellence - it’s doing everything as if we are doing it for God Himself.

YEAR 9A HOMEROOM
Hi everyone, let me introduce you to the 9A homeroom of 2023.
The students of 9A have a great variety of skills and talents. Amongst us are design whiz, mathematics guru, cosmetics enthusiast, chess champion, basketball top dog, social justice advocate and most importantly, we have many God-fearing students in the class. Our homeroom schedule is as follows:
Monday – Student catch up
Tuesday – Devotion
Wednesday – Prayer Walk
Thursday – Good Value Video
Friday – Games Day
Students have enjoyed being in 9A with the diverse homeroom activities that are on offer everyday. Below is an example of a game that we have played a few times: Rock, paper, scissors, split. With the happy faces shown, it is no doubt that students do enjoy it thoroughly.
Our focus in homeroom regardless of the activities is built upon the school theme: Christ is our foundation. I encourage students to always turn to Christ regardless of the situation and know that God is in control, and He is the sovereign one.
I pray that these students will go on to Year 10 next year with the understanding that God has created them for a purpose and will not forsake them, even if there may be times that it may feel that way. “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you or forsake you”. (Deuteronomy 3:16)
Blessings,
Ms Esther Wong
