DEPUTY PRINCIPAL'S REPORT
National Reconciliation Week: Walking Together in Unity
Each year, from 27 May to 3 June, Australia observes National Reconciliation Week. This is a time to strengthen relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the wider Australian community.
These dates are significant in Australia’s history. The week begins on the anniversary of the 1967 Referendum, where Australians voted to recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the national census and concludes on the anniversary of the historic Mabo decision in 1992, which recognised the traditional land rights of Indigenous Australians.
Reconciliation Week encourages us to reflect on the rich cultures and contributions of First Nations peoples, while also acknowledging the importance of respect, understanding and unity within our nation. People like David Unaipon, an Aboriginal preacher, inventor, scientist and writer whose ideas and innovations contributed to engineering and technology in Australia. Known as “Australia’s Leonardo da Vinci,” his creativity and pursuit of knowledge continue to inspire Australians today and remind us of the significant contributions Aboriginal peoples have made to our nation and the world.
Reconciliation is also central to our faith. God calls us to live in peace with one another, showing forgiveness, humility and love. This not only applies to reconciliation within our wider community, but also within our own lives; in our friendships, families, workplaces and school community. In Colossians 3:13, we are reminded to “forgive as the Lord forgave you.”
At Lighthouse Christian College, we are thankful for the opportunity to learn from and honour Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and cultures. May this week encourage us all to be people who build bridges, restore relationships and reflect Christ’s love in the way we treat others.
Yours in His service,
David Holloway

CHAPLAIN
Reduce stress, sadness and hopelessness for your family.
Have you ever felt like all you ever hear is bad news everywhere? The cost of living is so high, the crime rate is out of control, another war overseas, the government has done something else to make our lives harder; It seems to be never ending. The world seems like a dark place, and for a child or young person this can be frightening and cause increased anxiety and stress. But all is not lost… in the middle of all of this there is GOOD NEWS and HOPE. His name is Jesus. God is bigger than all of the craziness of this world and he asks us to look to him for our comfort, peace and provision. Psalm 46 teaches us to look to God in the middle of all the chaos around us…. And rest in Him. We can teach our children that there is hope in this world and show them how to look to God for all things. Praying with your child and sharing the answers and breakthroughs that happen with them, helps them learn to turn to God and know that He is trustworthy. Proverbs 3:5-6 says "Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take."
Ask God first to show you how to navigate situations and struggles and He will show you. It will show your child that contrary to what the internet or the world around them says, there is hope in this world that they can call on and hold on to and fear and anxiety don’t rule. In my 30+ years as a Christian, I can confidently say that God has never left me or let me down. He hasn’t always answered my prayers that way I thought he “should”, but it has always turned out better than I expected when I trusted in Him anyway. These are lifelong lessons, I have taught my children, who are now outworking them in their own adult lives and seeing God do incredible things for them too. Turn to the HOPE of this world to overcome the fear, teach your child a lifelong lesson and watch what God will do.

SPORT
CSEN Sport Leadership Summit
Our Primary and Secondary House Captains had a wonderful opportunity to attend the CSEN Sports Leadership Summit at La Trobe Sports Park.
The theme of the day was “Proven” — a reminder that leadership is shown through our character, actions and service to others.
Through sport, team challenges and leadership sessions, students reflected on how they can lead in a way that reflects Jesus — serving humbly, encouraging others and using their influence for good.
Well done, House Captains, for representing Lighthouse with enthusiasm, respect and courage.

PRIMARY ELC - Year 2
Drama Toolbox ELC
The children were excited to participate in our Drama Toolbox session! We were joined by a teacher named Joe, who transformed our classroom into an imaginary garden full of minibeasts. During group discussions, the children explored what minibeasts are and shared their ideas about ladybugs, butterflies, and worms. They were also introduced to a new insect called a slater bug and learnt how it curls into a ball to protect itself from birds.
The children then took part in an interactive drama experience where they dressed up as different insects using costumes and acted out a story. They danced around the “pond” happily until a magpie appeared looking for insects to eat. The children had to quickly find their homes and hide, encouraging imaginative play, listening skills, and quick thinking.
The experience continued with caterpillar songs and movement activities, where the children learnt about caterpillars building cocoons and transforming into butterflies. It was wonderful to see the children actively engaged, learning about different insects through fun, creativity, movement, and dramatic play.

PRIMARY - Years 3 - 6
Primary Music Soirée
This term we hosted our Primary Music Soirée, featuring performances from students across the primary years. It was a glorious evening filled with joyful music, confidence, and delight as students shared the results of their hard work and dedication.
We would like to thank all of our parents for their encouragement, patience, and ongoing support in helping your children become lifelong musicians. Learning music takes perseverance and commitment, and it is wonderful to see students growing not only in skill, but also in confidence and creativity. It is our hope that evenings like these give families the opportunity to celebrate the joy and achievement that music brings.
The Music Department always treasures these occasions and the opportunity to celebrate our students together. We look forward to many more evenings of music-making in the future.

SECONDARY
Encounter Day 2026
A big congratulations to our Year 12 students who successfully ran their first Encounter Day, a meaningful student-led event designed to help students grow in leadership, service, responsibility, and faith.
Throughout the day, students helped lead chapel sessions, worship, prayer, reflection, and a range of student-led workshops. These workshops gave students the opportunity to lead their peers, serve others, build confidence, and demonstrate the school’s HEART values in practical ways.
It was wonderful to see students step up with courage, creativity, and enthusiasm. Through their planning, organisation, and leadership, students demonstrated humility, empowerment, authenticity, respect, and tenacity, while also showing encouragement, teamwork, and care for others.
A special thank you goes to the students who helped lead and organise the day, as well as the staff who supported them throughout the process. We are also grateful to Ms Assad, Fiona, and Jordan for their assistance in helping bring the day together.
Encounter Day was a valuable opportunity for students to reflect on their faith, consider what it means to live out Christian values, and encounter God in a personal and meaningful way. We are proud of the way our students participated, served, and contributed to making the day a memorable experience for our school community.

Technology Day
On 14 May 2026, the Year 9 students took part in an engaging Technology Day led by Head of Technology, Christian Morabito. The day challenged students to think deeply about logic, deduction, and computation — all without the use of screens.
Students began by solving complex deductive reasoning puzzles that required them to analyse clues, eliminate possibilities, and apply structured logic to reach a solution. They then explored logic gates and binary decision-making through hands-on activities that strengthened problem-solving and computational thinking skills.
The day also introduced students to the foundations of assembly language and computation through a paper-based simulation activity, helping students understand how computers follow precise instructions at the lowest level. To conclude the day, students constructed four origami logic gates and used truth tables to determine the function of each gate through experimentation and observation.
The experience highlighted that computer science is not simply about devices or coding on screens — it is fundamentally about logic, creativity, communication, and disciplined thinking.

VCE VM Work Related Skills Excursion
On Tuesday, 19 May, our Year 11 and 12 VCE VM students visited Bunnings Warehouse Keysborough as part of their Work Related Skills program.
The excursion gave students a valuable opportunity to experience a real workplace environment and gain a deeper understanding of how a large business operates day to day. During the visit, students explored different departments, learned about a variety of roles within the store, and observed how teamwork, communication and customer service are essential in a busy retail workplace.
Students also heard from Bunnings staff about workplace expectations, safety procedures, ongoing training, health and wellbeing, leadership opportunities and career pathways within the organisation.
This experience connected strongly with the VCE VM Work Related Skills curriculum, particularly in the areas of employability skills, workplace communication, personal development, teamwork, safety and future career planning.
We are grateful to the team at Bunnings Keysborough for welcoming our students and providing them with such a practical and insightful learning experience. The visit encouraged students to think more deeply about their future pathways and the kind of character, attitude and skills needed to contribute positively in the workplace.

Our Year 11 and 12 students recently attended the Victorian Careers Show, where they explored a broad range of post-school pathways including university, TAFE, apprenticeships, traineeships, employment, and industry programs. Students engaged with representatives and gathered valuable information about courses, labour market trends and future opportunities. This experience forms an important part of our Careers Development program, supporting students to make informed pathway decisions, broaden their understanding of future possibilities and strengthen the connection between their interests, strengths, and career aspirations.
