DEPUTY PRINCIPAL'S REPORT
At Lighthouse Christian College, we believe that empowerment is a collective effort that involves students, staff, and parents. Empowerment, one of our core values, is about fostering a supportive and respectful environment where everyone can thrive. To this end, we emphasize the importance of our Parent/Guardian Code of Conduct, which outlines the expectations for our parent community to help create a positive and nurturing atmosphere for our children.
This code of conduct is designed to ensure that all interactions within our school community reflect the respect, responsibility, and care that underpin our educational philosophy.
Key elements of the Code include -
Respectful Communication: Parents are encouraged to communicate with teachers, staff, and other parents in a manner that is respectful and constructive. This fosters a collaborative environment where issues can be addressed effectively and positively.
Support for School Policies: We ask parents to support and uphold the school’s policies and procedures as outlined on the College website and reinforce these at home.
Positive Role Modelling: Parents play a crucial role in modelling behaviour for their children. Demonstrating integrity, respect, and empathy in interactions sets a powerful example for our students.
Active Engagement: We value and encourage parents to be actively involved in their child's education and the school community. This involvement includes attending meetings, participating in school events, and volunteering.
Safety and Wellbeing: Ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all students is paramount. Parents are expected to contribute to a safe environment by promptly reporting any concerns and supporting the school’s efforts to address them.
In the spirit of empowerment, adhering to the Parent/Guardian Code of Conduct helps create a community where our children feel supported, respected, and motivated to achieve their best. It reinforces the partnership between home and school, ensuring that our collective efforts are aligned towards the holistic development of our students.
We are grateful for the active participation and support of our parent community. Together, we can continue to build a school environment that empowers every child to succeed. Thank you for your commitment to upholding the values and expectations of LCC.
Matthew 7:12
“So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you …”

WELLBEING
PRIMARY WELLBEING WEEK
What an amazing three days Primary students have experienced as we celebrated our first-ever Primary Wellbeing Week this week. On Mon 3 – Wed 5 June all Primary students engaged in three engaging activities to promote positive wellbeing. Topics included: emotional literacy, resilience, and the link between physical and mental health. Students were blessed to engage in workshops from Toolbox Education and Healthy Teens.
Here are some reflections from some 4SW students:
Wellbeing Day was great! You could watch the Inside Out movie made in 2015 in the Zenith Theatre! But sports were very challenging. You had to do exercises, burpees, squats, planks, and even boxing! It was really fun though. Then we had Tilly come n our class to teach us about emotions. – Valentino
Wellbeing Day was so delightful and helped me become more aware of my emotions and kept me fit physically and mentally. Wellbeing was very encouraging and competitive, especially because of the burpee challenge. – Daniel
During Wellbeing Day I learned so many new things. We even watched a movie about wellbeing, it was called Inside Out. It’s technically a movie where this girl Riley had little different emotions in her head. In period 3-4 we went to the Chapel and learned about resilience. – Reuben
Wellbeing Day was clearly one of the best days in the year. We first watched a movie called Inside Out. We learned different emotions. We also did health and fitness. In these periods we did many things to get us fit and healthy. In the very important last part period we did some workshops. We learned different ways of calming down. My favourite was the slow down breathing and the move your body. – Olivia
Wellbeing Day was a fantastic day. I had lots of fun watching the movie (Inside Out) . It was certainly amazing! Then we went to this huge chapel and did some exercises – boxing, burpees, chicken in the box and exercises. – Leah
We also kicked off our Push-Up Challenge this week! Each class in Years 3-6 is aiming to complete 3249 push-ups per class between 5 and 26 June, to raise awareness and promote wellbeing. Please encourage your children to PUSH FOR BETTER MENTAL HEALTH!

In week 7, we had the puppet activity set up for the class. Children had lots of fun in this play experience with their peers. They used finger puppets or small hand puppets to act out situations and play with words and sounds. Through this puppet experience children were expanding their vocabulary and language use. It was great to see children retold the information they've learned and remembered it from home or kinder and transferred to their puppet role-play. This allows them to explore new personalities, and ideas and develop their imagination. As children interact with their hand puppets and peers, they can learn new words and concepts in a fun and engaging way.
NATIONAL SIMULTANEOUS STORYTIME
On Wednesday 22 May, Prep to Year 2 students participated in National Simultaneous Storytime. We were part of 2,359,147 participants who united across Australia to listen to the same book read aloud. This year’s book was Bowerbird Blues by Aura Parker. Students also completed different activities to celebrate this special event.
Thank you Mr Leong, Mr Holloway and Mr Kan for a wonderful reading of the book!

PRIMARY - YEARS 3 - 6
The excitement of students made the hour-long bus ride to the Phillip Island Chocolate Factory short. With their clipboards in hand, the Year 3 students were on a mission to gather and learn as much as they could about how chocolate is made. Exploring its history, process and being involved with many self-led activities at the tour, students were immersed in a wealth of chocolate knowledge through hands on learning approaches. Tasting the various types of chocolate available, students also customised their own chocolate bar to bring home! Back in the classrooms, students transferred their knowledge of chocolate into an information report.

YEAR 9 SRC
Hello, I am Isaac Taj-Ud-Din from 9A. I love to play volleyball, play drums, and do devotionals. My journey with God has grown over the past couple of years. From being baptised in 2018 to seeing miracles while overseas last year, I can say that my relationship with God is growing stronger each day. I’ve had the opportunity to be in the Worship band this year. I love to see others worshipping the Lord who created us. I am looking forward to the Palm Island Missions Trip, Year 9 camp, Encounter Day, and Encounter Camp this year! (Formerly known as CST Day and CST Camp). But I think that’s enough talk about myself, now it’s time to get into the serious stuff.
The theme at Lighthouse is New Life this year. New Life to me means something that has been created into something new, as 2 Corinthians 5:17 says “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”. To become new in Christ, you must have a personal relationship with Him. This includes giving up things to follow Him, just as Jesus’s disciples did. Talking about God, I am thinking of starting a bible study club with the Faith Captains: Nathan and Kayla and I hope that people will come to that and learn something new about Jesus.
Hi, I’m Jedidiah Manova and I am the SRC representative for 9C. I play the Violin, Guitar and I love reading. My journey with God has changed a lot over time. I would always have some time left for Him, but now, I am surrounded by so many things that I have not been able to talk to Him or leave any time for Him. However, it is still especially important that you have time for God just so when you need help, He will be there to help you. That is something that I will continue to work on and something that I encourage you to do as well.
Over this year, I have been looking to start Homeroom Activities. This is just another way of enjoying homeroom through the company of your friends and if this goes smoothly, I would like to try and make this possible so the whole year level can have fun together. Something that I have noticed at school which could change is the respect we have towards each other. Respect is one of the HEART Values and it is something we should carry with us all the time. It is important to have respect towards each other because it can shape us into a better version of ourselves. Respect is something that not everyone cares about but it is our own responsibility to work on it so that we can help the school and the wider community become a better place.
Hi, my name is Andrew, and I am the SRC representative for 9B this year. Being an SRC has been very exciting for me so far and I am excited for what it to come. First, I will let you know a bit about myself, I love sports and am usually doing after-school sports each day like soccer and boxing, I also love playing the guitar and I have been playing it for about 3 years now. What about my journey with God and why I became an SRC? God is my leader throughout my whole life as he shows me what to do in life, he is my role model and I strive to act like he would in situations. I have chosen to become an SRC to spread God’s vision through our school, make changes that matter, and ensure the student's voice is heard. This year I am trying to add a new system into our school called a “sports bucket/cage”. I will be working on this in the coming days and weeks and hopefully, I can get it implemented soon.
10B HOMEROOM – Empowerment
This week, Year 10B students had the exhilarating opportunity to participate in a Karate session during their P.E. class. It was an empowering experience for all, and the students embraced the challenge with enthusiasm and determination.
During the session, every student actively participated, learning new techniques and honing their skills. It was wonderful to see them supporting and encouraging each other, demonstrating a strong sense of community and teamwork.
A standout moment was when the students practiced their Karate moves with discipline and focus, reflecting the Christian value of empowerment. The session not only strengthened their bodies but also their spirits. Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me," was a guiding verse for the day, reminding the students that their true strength comes from their faith in Christ.
Here's to more empowering and inspiring experiences for 10B and our entire school community!

9/10 Applied learning - Farm to Food
The 9/10 Applied Learning students have rejuvenated the Lighthouse Christian College Vegetable patch. Some of the cos lettuce and spinach were ready for harvest. The students
used the spinach to cook, Spinach and Ricotta Rolls and the cos lettuce in the hamburgers they cooked. The left-over produce from applied learning is used in Food Tech.
The 9/10 Applied Learning students through this showed growth in their employability skills, such as teamwork, planning and communication.
An example is that Mr Norng used the cos lettuce to hold the stir-fried chicken that was cooked for his VCE Food Studies class.
