PRINCIPAL'S REPORT
“And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!” – Matthew 24:40
The College was connected to an organisation in Indonesia that supports the poor and needy through their Church ministries recently. This organisation serves children living in slums by operating schools and skills programs, providing opportunities that can help lift them out of poverty in the future.
As I listened to the Outreach Team for North Queensland share how the Lord gave different students opportunities to tell others about what God has done in their lives, I was reminded that there is so much need in our world and that each of us can play a part in bringing hope to others.
Jesus used a parable to illustrate that helping those in need is the equivalent of serving Him. There are countless opportunities for us to show care and love to the people around us. It may be as simple as having a conversation with a neighbour, offering to pray for them, or being willing to help when they are in need. Often, the greatest acts of compassion do not begin with large programs but with a heart that notices, listens, and responds.
When we make ourselves available to God, even small acts of kindness can become powerful expressions of His love to someone who is hurting, lonely, or discouraged.As we bless others, we often discover that we too are blessed with the joy of the Lord. A well-known example of this is Mother Teresa, who served the poorest of the poor in Calcutta and reminded the world that while not all of us can do great things, we can all do small things with great love.

PRIMARY ELC - Year 2
NAIDOC Week Chapel
In Week 9 Term 2 our primary students celebrated NAIDOC Week. Each class furthered their knowledge of our First People history through their learning activities, incursion, artwork and at our NAIDOC Chapel on Friday. Years 2,3 and 4 students participated in an incursion where they heard songs that opened their eyes to the different culture and were shown different types of local indigenous artefacts including boomerangs, clapsticks and didgeridoo. The students enjoyed the opportunity to learn from one of the local indigenous people.
On the Friday students were able to showcase what they learnt throughout the week as well as their artwork they had put together during their art lessons in the term. Enjoy some of the photos of these amazing pieces of art. We, as the teachers are so proud of the way each student presented confidently and engaged in their learning. Students used local indigenous history to help build Minecraft projects, ran different segments interviewing famous indigenous people, shared their artwork of salvation, shared an indigenous song they had learnt and shared their artwork and canvases they worked so tirelessly on. There were 2 students from Primary who received the NAIDOC community awards: Kyen Yang (Prep-2) and Evie White (Year 3-6) for “Students who have invested to build a respectful, welcoming and safe community within our school.”
We were also able to pray for our Year 9 mission trip team as they head off on missions up north to an indigenous community as well as heard a powerful testimony of forgiveness from an indigenous elder. We have been able to learn much from our First Nations throughout NAIDOC Week and we look forward to continuing our learning throughout our classes as we build respect, knowledge and connection all through the lens of the love found in Christ and given to all people.

PRIMARY - Years 3 - 6
Democracy, Community and Me Incursion
The Year 4 students participated in the engaging Democracy, Community & Me incursion, where they discovered what it means to be active and responsible members of their community. Through interactive role plays and hands-on activities, students learned about the difference between rules and laws, explored how local government works, and experienced Australia's preferential voting system by taking part in a mock election. The incursion encouraged the Year 4 students to think critically, share their opinions respectfully, and appreciate the important role they play in helping their community thrive. It was an enjoyable and memorable learning experience for all involved!

NAIDOC Week Visual Art
In recognition of NAIDOC Week, students participated in a range of visual arts experiences that celebrated the richness and diversity of First Nations cultures. Through their learning, students explored how art can communicate stories, preserve knowledge and strengthen connections across generations.
The year 6 students explored the traditional Aboriginal X-Ray Art style of Arnhem Land, learning how artists represent both the outside and inside of animals through detailed patterns and designs. After viewing a range of artworks for inspiration, students created their own X-Ray-inspired artworks, carefully depicting internal structures, textures and patterns. Through this learning experience, students developed an appreciation for the creativity, knowledge and cultural significance of this important Aboriginal art tradition. We acknowledge and respect the Aboriginal peoples of Arnhem Land and the rich cultural heritage that inspires this art form.

The year 4 students explored the rich tradition of Aboriginal dot painting, learning how artists use dots, patterns and colour to tell stories and express connections to Country, culture and community. After viewing a range of artworks for inspiration, students created their own dot art pieces, experimenting with pattern, texture and colour while developing an appreciation for the artistic techniques used in this important Australian art form. We acknowledge and respect the many diverse Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures that continue to share their stories through art.

Attention ALL Secondary Students!
Get ready! Book Week is back on Thursday 20th August, and we can't wait to see your creativity come to life!
Come dressed as your favourite book character, or a movie character inspired by a book or comic. Whether your costume is clever, funny, nostalgic or completely original, we'd love to see your interpretation. Just remember to keep it school-appropriate and in line with our College expectations.
During chapel, we'll hold our Secondary Book Week Parade, with plenty of opportunities to celebrate your creativity and enjoy some friendly costume competition.
This year, your gold coin donation will support Reading Out Of Poverty (ROOP) as they work to improve literacy outcomes for Indigenous children in Yarrabah, Far North Queensland. Many children in remote communities have little or no access to libraries or age-appropriate books. Together, we can help change that.
Every donation helps ROOP:
- Build five pop-up libraries
- Deliver more than 2,500 culturally relevant books
- Support families in creating a love of reading at home
- Give children the opportunity to read, dream and succeed
So grab your favourite character, bring along a gold coin donation, and help us make this year's Book Week one to remember.

Maths Association of Victoria Games Day
Lighthouse were proud to have the following students represent the school on Monday the 20th at the Maths Association of Victora Games Day.
Maria, Austin, Andrada and Naomi travelled to Tintern Grammar School where they competed in a problem-solving relay, KenKen puzzle round, Honeycomb addition game and team problem solving to collect points against a range of schools. It was a great opportunity for our students to travel and represent the school in a team based academic competition. They enjoyed making friends with like-minded peers from other schools as this has been a build up from their involvement in our Wednesday lunchtime Mathletes Maths Club.
We look forward to sending our Year 8 team to our next Games Day competition on the 26th of August at Penleigh and Essendon Grammar School.
