PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

Unity within diversity

There are more than 30 ethnic groups within our school community. In the Book of Genesis Chapter 11, the people came together to build the Tower of Babel so that they could make a name for themselves. God then decided to disperse mankind to different parts of earth, creating diverse languages among different people groups so that they could not proceed with the plan. It is a great opportunity for every student in the College to learn and interact with people from different backgrounds. Lighthouse Christian College strives to support our students and their families to appreciate each other’s culture and background. This week, we ran some NAIDOC activities to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Through Arts, Music and Languages, students can understand and appreciate the rich history and contributions by the First Nations people to our country. It is such a privilege and honour for the College to be in partnership with some of these families within our school.

Our Year 9 Missions Team consisted of 10 students and 2 staff members, who all enjoyed a great experience living and contributing to the First Nations people community at Palm Island during the Term 2 break. They were able to share wonderful stories from the bible, pray and conduct meaningful games for children they came in contact with during the trip. The team will be running a special Chapel program this Saturday (22nd July) at 6 pm to share about their experiences with the school community. Your involvement in this program will be very much appreciated.

Looking forward to an exciting Term 3!

Blessings,

WELLBEING & TECHNOLOGY

Can You Handle The Truth?

Truth is defined as something that is in accordance with fact or reality. The world as we know and understand from the past, present to anticipate and predict the future, continues to change, and progress in its values, morals, standards and beliefs to what is right, true and of best interest for humanity. This constant change and shifting of goal posts creates confusion and uncertainty to what the future holds and breaks confidence in what will remain steadfast and uncompromised.

However, we need not be anxious nor worry anymore! No matter what we may be challenged by in life, we can rest assure that our Almighty God is faithful and will never forsake us, as He is the same yesterday, today and forever. (Hebrews 13:8)

To understand, know and believe in this, we must turn to and abide in scripture that has remained the same for thousands of years. The Word = God (John 1:1) later became flesh = Jesus Christ! (John 1:14). Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:31-32)

Jesus also shared to his disciples, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’ (John 14:6). Connecting these two parts together, Jesus = Truth and Truth = Freedom, we can conclude that Jesus = Freedom. Freedom from what though?

1 John 14:6 states, ‘God is Love’ and later in verse 18, further explains that there is no fear in love, but perfect love drives out fear. If God = Perfect Love and Perfect Love = No Fear, we can also conclude God casts out all fear.

Through abiding in God’s Word (His Truth) – we will be set free from captivity, sin, and death. The enemy only wants to steal, kill, and destroy, evoke chaos, confusion and destruction through lies, deception, and instilling fear. However, in John 10:10 – Jesus says he has come that all may have life and have it to the full.

The solution to conquering sin, strongholds, bad habits, addictions, fear, anxiety, depression – is to seek the source of true and perfect love – which is only found through the one and only, God Himself. Through believing in and accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour – we are reunited with God the Father and have access to Him and His great and unconditional love, that He lavished on us, so we may be called Children of God! That is what we are! (1 John 3:1)

That is the Truth!

PRIMARY - ELC - YEAR 2

The students settled back quickly to their kindergarten routines and were happy to be reconnected with their classmates. We had a Teddy Bear Picnic to celebrate our first week back which was linked to the learning of the letter ‘Tt.’ The children brought their teddies to show, share and play with their peers. Teddies and soft toys empowered children to learn to interact with others, develop social skills like empathy, sharing, co-operation, responsibility, and communication. This activity fostered creativity and imagination as they played with their peers. They had a morning tea picnic outside and enjoyed the nice warm weather. After eating their fruits, they were given a treat of fairy bread, teddy bear biscuits and tried some freshly brewed warm tea. The day concluded with a class group photo taken where the children show off their big smiles reflecting the 'Fun Filled Day' they had.

YEAR 2 EXCURSION

Year 2s ended Term 2 with an excursion to the Melbourne Museum. The Mini Mega Model exhibit offered a shifting-scale world of models and miniatures. The Bugs Alive exhibit showcased specimens of many insects such as beetles and beautiful butterflies. The students took a journey through the heart of Africa with an awe-inspiring, immersive 3D IMAX film. After lunch, they walked among the skeletons of some amazing animals from the past and strolled through the Milarri Garden to learn about native flora significant to our First People.

WE SAW, WE WERE CHALLENGED, WE PUSHED! THE PUSH-UP CHALLENGE

A huge congratulations to all the students in Years 3-6 who participated in The 2023 Push-Up Challenge. Each class completed at least 3144 push-ups during the month of June. That’s a total of 37,728 PUSH-UPS! Some classes went over and above expectation and recorded up to 10,500! Thank you to the P.E. Staff and Classroom teachers for engaging the students and facilitating the challenge to raise funds and awareness of Australians who struggle with mental health and wellbeing.

Let’s continue to create safe and healthy wellbeing practices in the lives of our young people!

year 4 civics incursion

Year 4 had an incursion at the end of term 3 to experience what local council does. We pretended to have an election. The presenter explained what they would do, and showed us how to vote for a particular candidate.

Some students went on stage to act. “Candidate Healthy” won the vote and become the mayor! The pretend council debated a topic, giving different arguments and the Mayor chose the most convincing side of the argument. It was great fun! “
