PRINCIPAL'S REPORT
Authenticity: Being True to Who We Are
As a school community, we often speak about the importance of instilling our school values and making them a way of life. The famous actor Robert De Niro once said, “If you’re an actor, always be true to your character. If you are not an actor, have character and always be true to yourself.” This is a timely reminder for us all.
Authenticity is not about seeking attention or approval, but about living with honesty, humility and integrity before others and before God.
Each day, our students are learning not only through their lessons, but also through the examples of those around them. In a world where there is pressure to fit in, compare ourselves with others, or present a perfect image, we want our young people to be grounded in strong values and confident in the person God has created them to be.
May we continue to encourage one another to speak truthfully, show respect, accept responsibility and choose kindness. In doing so, we help to build a school culture where every person feels known, valued and encouraged to do what is right.

Bullying No Way Week
The Primary students recently took part in recognising Bullying No Way Week, with this year’s theme, ‘Small Acts, Big Impact’, encouraging us to consider how simple acts of kindness can make a meaningful difference to others.
In their classrooms, students created a kindness paper chain, with each student writing one kind action they could do for someone else before joining their piece to the growing chain. This helped demonstrate the ripple effect of kindness – how one small action can inspire another and create a much bigger impact.
Students also had the opportunity to participate in lunchtime activities connected to the theme, while our weekly Chapel message reinforced the importance of noticing others and choosing kindness. Students heard how Jesus noticed Zacchaeus, showed him kindness and welcomed him, reminding us of the difference it can make when we take the time to see and care for others. We also reflected on how God can use small acts to accomplish big things, just as He did when a young boy offered his loaves of bread and fish, which Jesus used to feed thousands of people.
It was wonderful to see our Primary students embracing the message that, as part of God’s family, we are called to let His love shine through our everyday actions, remembering that even the smallest acts of kindness can make a big impact on those around us.
We encourage families to use this time to have open and supportive conversations with their children about recognising bullying, its effects, and ways they can make a positive difference. You can visit the Bullying No Way website for tips around how to have this discussion.

MUSIC
Visit to Bupa Aged Care
On the 23rd of July the Music Department took the Primary Choir and the Intermediate Flute Choir to the Bupa Aged Care in Bonbeach. This was part of our Grandparents Day celebrations, as well as an important community outreach event. Students from across Primary and Secondary have been practicing, rehearsing and giving up their time to prepare high-quality music for the residents. Through our music, we presented the Gospel message and sang some “golden oldies” that even had some singing along! The flute ensemble played beautiful arrangements of Hayden’s water music and Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker, showcasing their maturity and poise under pressure.
This event is especially dear to our hearts. It shows the beautiful way music crosses, cultural and generational borders, bringing both joy and warmth. We are thankful to the Bupa staff for allowing this opportunity and we look forward to the next visit.

CSEN VCE Senior Rally Day
This term our VCE students competed in their last Rally Day of the year, and for our year 12s – their last Rally Day ever! Our College had multiple teams participating in Soccer 5s, Spikeball and Pickleball.
We had some great results across the board, with a particularly fitting finish for our VCE boys’ Soccer 5s team, who took home the flag! After a thrilling semi-final where Deng scored an incredible six goals, the boys went on to defeat their opponents in the grand final on penalties to secure the win. A special congratulations also goes to our boys’ team who came in second at Pickleball!
Most importantly our students thoroughly enjoyed the day and represented Lighthouse with pride!

In our last House event for the year, all students across Year 7-10 competed in our annual House Soccer Competition. Throughout the day, students displayed strong house camaraderie and exceptional soccer skills.
In what was a tight competition all day, congratulations to Luther Knights for being crowned the 2026 House Soccer Champions! Well done to all students for participating!

100 Days of School
On 4th August, our Prep students joyfully celebrated their special 100 Days of School. It was a wonderful milestone as we reflected on how much they have learned, grown, and flourished over the past 100 days. Dressed as grandmas and grandpas, our students enjoyed 100 Days activities with balloons and goodie bags.
We are so proud of all they have achieved this year and thank God for His guidance, care, and faithfulness throughout their learning journey. We look forward to seeing each student continue to grow in wisdom, confidence, and character in the months ahead.

ELC Dental and Oral Health Week
Healthy Smiles at our ELC!
In Week 4, our Early Learning Centre celebrated Dental and Oral Health Week with some very special visitors. We were thrilled to welcome dentist Vasu to our centre to chat with the children about their bright smiles. She engaged the students in fun, interactive discussions about the importance of maintaining great oral hygiene. The children learned how to brush their teeth correctly and discovered which healthy foods help keep their teeth strong. Our children showed great curiosity, asked fantastic questions, and even practised their brushing skills in class after lunch! Thank you to dentist Vasu for helping us promote healthy habits in our community.

Minecraft Club at Lighthouse
Our Minecraft club has continued to get more students joining and building collaboratively on our Thursdays during lunchtime.
We received our results from the Australian eSports League congratulations to Nora Guan (81%) and Aarav Tandon, Yug Patel and Menuja Mendis (68%) on their build scores.
This term, students have just completed and submitted their build Medieval Marvels build focusing on; How did medieval innovations help communities survive nature’s challenges? Our judging team is still busy looking at builds vs. the success criteria.
Our newest build series is how Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have sustainably cared for Country for thousands of years. Teams must apply this ancient wisdom to design creative, nature-first solutions for modern environmental challenges within Minecraft.
Students have started exploring cultural burning to manage bushfires in summer connecting to indigenous content leant in class. They have also explored the Budj Bim cultural heritage area in Western Victoria exploring the system of Gundjitmara eel traps used in their aquaculture.

Synchrotron Excursion
What produces light a million times brighter than the Sun? The answer is the ‘Australian Synchrotron.’ Situated on Blackburn Road, this world-class facility is involved in innovative research across a variety of field, including medicine and health, agriculture and food, mining and energy as well as cultural heritage.
Students learned about some of the Synchrotron's most exciting discoveries, including the hidden artwork beneath Degas' Portrait of a Woman and research that has helped improve treatments for premature babies experiencing breathing difficulties. They were given a tour of the facilities, allowing them to see first-hand how synchrotron light supports innovative scientific experimentation.
They chatted to a scientist, the first time such as opportunity was afforded to our students. They also had the chance to safely dip their fingertips into liquid nitrogen, which proved to be a memorable experience.
Linking directly with Unit 4 Outcome 1 students then participated in a number of experiments. Diffraction patterns were investigated using red and green lasers. They explored the photoelectric effect, a phenomenon which is applied in solar cells and were fascinated to observe the unique ‘fingerprints’ of chemical elements. The excursion provided to be an engaging and authentic connection between classroom theory and real-world Physics applications.

Australian Mathematics Trust (AMT) Competition
Our students recently participated in the Australian Mathematics Trust (AMT) competition, joining students from across Australia in tackling a range of challenging and engaging mathematical problems.
The competition provides students with an opportunity to extend their mathematical thinking beyond routine classroom questions. It encourages problem-solving skills, logical reasoning and creative thinking , requiring students to apply their mathematical knowledge in unfamiliar situations.
We are very proud of all students who participated and were willing to challenge themselves. We look forward to celebrating their results when they become available.

VM Café Delight
The VM students did a fantastic job running their café this week, working diligently to prepare, organise, and serve a range of items throughout lunch.
The café was a great success, with students demonstrating teamwork, responsibility, communication, and practical hospitality skills. It was encouraging to see them take ownership of the process and contribute positively to the school community.
A big thank you to the students involved for their hard work and commitment, and to the staff and students who came along and supported the café by purchasing something on the day. Your support helped make the experience meaningful and successful for the VM students.
