DEPUTY PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

As we enter the final few weeks of Term 2, we thank the Lord for His provision and the many opportunities our students have had to grow, learn and serve. Please remember that our last day of term is Wednesday, 2 July.

Looking Out for Each Other: Road Safety Matters

We remind all students and families of the importance of road safety; especially along Springvale Road. Students must only cross at the designated traffic lights. Crossing elsewhere is extremely dangerous and puts lives at risk.

We encourage all parents to support safe travel habits by:

· Modelling safe pedestrian behaviours when walking with children.

· Reminding children regularly about the importance of using crossings.

· Avoiding calling children across the road from the car; always park legally and safely.

Our duty of care extends beyond the school gates, and together we can nurture a culture where students feel protected and supported.

As Philippians 2:4 reminds us:

"Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others."

Let’s each do our part to promote a culture of care, responsibility, and safety within our community.

Upcoming Events

· My School Dentist Program (16–27 June):

The Australian Dental Foundation will visit LCC to offer free dental treatment and oral health education for students who have submitted their consent forms.

· Year 5 Camp to Phillip Island (25–27 June)

Our Year 5 students are heading to CYC The Island for an exciting mix of fun, learning, and personal growth. We pray for a safe journey and many opportunities for meaningful connections with their peers.

· Year 9 Youth Adventures Missions Trip (22 June–5 July)

Please pray for our Year 9 students as they begin their cross-cultural missions experience in Townsville and Palm Island through our partnership with YWAM. This trip is an incredible opportunity for students to grow in leadership, faith and service.

Student-Free Day Reminder

A reminder that next Friday, 20 June is a student-free day. There will be no classes on this day.

May the Lord continue to bless and guide our students, families and staff as we finish the term well.

Yours in His service

David Holloway

RECEPTION NOTICE

Lost and Found – Term 2

We would like to inform our school community that the Lost and Found area has accumulated a significant number of unclaimed items over the past term. These items include clothing, lunch boxes, drink bottles, and various other personal belongings.

We kindly encourage parents and guardians to remind their children to check the Lost and Found area, located at the Student Reception, if they are missing any personal items.

All unclaimed items will be displayed for collection on Wednesday 18th June and Thursday 19th June 2025.

WELLBEING

After we have received salvation and we journey through our relationship with Jesus there comes a time when we need to publicly declare our faith through water baptism. Romans 6:4-5 says: “4 For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives. 5 Since we have been united with him in his death, we will also be raised to life as he was.” Just as Christ died on the cross for our sins, was buried and then was resurrected, Baptism by full immersion is a symbolic act of identifying with Christ as we die to our sinful nature and rise in our new life with Christ. In Matthew 3:13-17 Jesus himself gets baptised and later in Matthew 28:19-20 he commands the disciples to go and make more disciples and to baptise them in the name of the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit. Baptism is therefore an act of obedience and commitment to Jesus. As an LCC community we have the opportunity to join with Lighthouse Family Christian Church on the 15th of June at the 10am service to celebrate those who are choosing to take this next step in their Christian walk and get baptised. If you are interested in joining those getting baptised, in taking this step please feel free to speak to Mr Kan, Mr Surendra or any of the church staff.

MUSIC

“Beautiful music is the art of the prophets that can calm the agitations of the soul; it is one of the most magnificent and delightful presents God has given us.” – Martin Luther

On Thursday, 29th May, students and families from both the Primary and Secondary schools came together to celebrate the musical achievements of our young performers. The evening was a vibrant showcase of the dedication, talent, and collaborative spirit that define our school’s music program.

More than 100 students took to the stage, performing in a variety of ensembles that reflected the incredible work taking place during their weekly rehearsals. The ensembles featured on the night included:

· LCC Concert Band

· 5I Band

· 5C Band

· Primary Choir

· Secondary Choir

· Flute Choir

· String Ensemble

· Senior Band

· Wind Ensemble

Many of these groups rehearse weekly, often before school or during lunchtime. The commitment these students have shown—sacrificing sleep-ins or breaks to pursue their love of music—deserves the highest praise. Their professionalism and musicianship were clearly on display throughout the evening.

Adding to the evening's charm, several Year 5 and 6 students performed solos and duets for audience members as they waited to enter the church, offering a personal and intimate prelude to the concert.

I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to our exceptional Lighthouse Music staff for their dedication to nurturing our students’ musical abilities and confidence:

· Miss Regan Mooney – Flute

· Mrs Colleen Brown – Strings

· Mr Bill Vincent – Brass and Woodwind

· Mr Nicolas Rosario – Primary Music Coordinator and Guitar

· Mr Pius Choi – Brass

· Mrs Vincy Pang – Music administrator extraordinaire

Special thanks also go to the students involved in running the event:

- our enthusiastic Primary Music Captains, Cynthia Zhang and William Kuoch, and our Secondary Arts Captains, Caroline Zimmerman and Thevan Kajipa, for their role in hosting the evening so beautifully.

- Riley Williams and the Year 9/10 Music Performance class for managing the staging on the night;

- Isaac Taj-Ud-din for his lighting.

We are also grateful to the many staff members who supported the event, both on the night and in the lead-up—your contributions were invaluable in bringing this showcase to life!

Finally, a particular thankyou goes to Mr Nam Ly, one of our Lighthouse parents, for his outstanding photography which beautifully captured the spirit and energy of the evening.

SPORT

Last week, Year 8 students took part in the "WheelTalk" program, delivered by Peter from Disability Sport and Recreation. Aligned with the 'All-Ability in Sport' curriculum, the incursion promoted disability inclusion through Peter’s powerful personal story. Students explored the challenges faced by people with disabilities and experienced wheelchair basketball firsthand. The session was an eye-opening and engaging way to build empathy and celebrate the power of sport to bring everyone together.

NCSS Sport Leadership Summit

Through CSEN, our Primary and Secondary House leaders had the opportunity to attend the NCSS Sport Leadership Summit in which was focused on applying Christ centred leadership on the sports field. The day was action packed with awesome guest speakers, practical sessions and mini sport competitions and overall was a great learning experience.

House Basketball

Last week all students from Year 7-10 competed in our annual House Basketball competition. Throughout the competition, students displayed their team spirit and excellent basketball skills. Well done to all students who participated and made the day enjoyable, and a huge congratulations to the Luther Knights for winning the competition!!

Prince and Princess Day

Our Prep students celebrated Prince and Princess Day with great excitement and imagination. The children arrived at school dressed in their finest royal costumes—capes, crowns, gowns, and even a few majestic swords and tiaras! The day was filled with joy and wonder as our little royals paraded around the classroom, fully embracing their characters and reflecting the godly perspective of being sons and daughters of the Most High God.”

Portia Martil, Teacher

PRIMARY - YEARS 3 - 6

During the recent Year 6 visit to the Eco Living Display Centre at The Briars in Mount Martha, students experienced firsthand how sustainable choices can positively impact our environment and daily lives. This retrofitted home showcases practical solutions like solar panels, water tanks, composting systems, and energy-efficient appliances, demonstrating how small changes can lead to significant environmental benefits

The interactive tour engaged students with hands-on activities, including exploring a kitchen garden, understanding what happens to our waste and learning about composting and worm farming. These experiences highlighted the importance of reducing waste and conserving resources, aligning with the Australian Curriculum's emphasis on environmental education.

The Centre's educational programs are designed to inspire students to adopt sustainable practices in their own lives, fostering a sense of responsibility and empowerment. By understanding the impact of their choices, students are encouraged to contribute to a more sustainable and God honouring future.

Visiting the Eco Living Display Centre provided an invaluable opportunity for students to connect classroom learning with real-world applications, reinforcing the significance of sustainability in our everyday lives.

Year 10 SRC Article

Anna Kurian

Hi, my name is Anna Kurian, and I am proud to be the SRC representative for 10A. I’ve really enjoyed being part of this school community and having the chance to represent my peers this year. Some of the things I’m passionate about include volleyball, netball, and psychology. One thing I’ve loved about being in the SRC is the opportunity to be involved in making positive changes and encouraging student voice. I’m looking forward to continuing this journey with the team and seeing how we can make an even bigger impact as the year progresses.

Ashleen Kaur

Hey! I’m Ashleen - SRC for 10B! Upon coming to Lighthouse, I’ve grown to love God more and more with every day that passes, and I feel so privileged to be able to serve His community. Some of my hobbies include crocheting and music in general; listening, playing and worshipping through music! Through leadership in SRC, I hope to not only implement and listen to student wants and needs - canteen suggestions and different clubs - but to grow willing to love and serve others no matter what.

Rosie Fernando

Hi, my name is Rosie Fernando and I am the 10C SRC. I came to this school in year 8 and it was very different from what I was used to. But over time I have learned more and more about this school and found my place in it. Some things I enjoy are netball, cricket, reading and spending time with my friends. I also love serving in my kids ministry team at church and going to Youth group. Over the past semester, I have begun a homeroom initiative with my class where every 2 weeks on Mondays we meet up with Primary class 4O. For the 15 minutes we do something fun like play a sport, do a Kahoot or make a craft. I am excited to see what else our SRC team can achieve in the coming semester!

Creative Arts Update

Hi everyone! Our names are Caroline Zimmerman and Thevan Kajipa and we are your 2025 Creative Arts Captains! We’re so incredibly grateful for this opportunity

and can’t wait to help lead and support the amazing creative projects happening across the school this year.

We’ve hit the ground running, recently finishing up work on the LCC Music Concert, which took place on May 29th. It was a fantastic night filled with energy, talent and teamwork. We loved seeing so many students across year levels perform, and it was an honour to help out behind the scenes – also assisting a few teachers with MCing the event.

At the moment, we’re currently working on the Primary Production - Finding Nemo! We have been helping with sets and supporting rehearsals where we can. It’s been great seeing the younger students get involved in performing arts, we’re so blessed to have the chance to encourage and work alongside them.

Looking ahead, we’re also in the process of finalising ideas and preparing to announce the 2026 School Production! It's been an exciting few weeks of discussion, and we can't wait to share the production with you soon. From organising costumes, sets and an amazing opportunity to host the performance out of school, so exciting!

We’re looking forward to a fun and creative year ahead and can’t wait to continue

supporting the Arts at our school – just like Psalm 150:4-5 says 🙂

Year 12 Art Making and Exhibiting & Visual Communication Design Excursion

The Year 12 Art Making and Exhibiting and Visual Communication Design students spent the day out visiting various galleries to look at a variety of exhibitions. At the Ian Potter Centre, students saw the Top Arts Exhibition and had the opportunity to complete a folio viewing to inspire and guide their own practice. We then went to the Melbourne Museum to visit the Top Designs exhibition which also provided great insight and an overview of high quality Year 12 Vis Comm works. After having lunch at Melbourne Central, we finished the day at NGV International where the students browsed famous works from all over the world, and throughout major art movements. It was a wonderful day out and we are excited to see the works our students produce as they progress through their folios!

VCE VM: Cafe Delight

Cafe Delight is a student-run business run by the Years 11 and 12 VM team. The goal is to prepare and make quality food and bring out a good service to our customers. The VM team is separated into 3 different sections - savoury, drinks and desserts. In Term 1, my section was the savoury, which we planned on making chicken wings. We successfully prepped, made and managed all the wings with no fail or setbacks. One thing we faced as a team was figuring out the right quantity of ingredients needed, for if it was too much or too little.

Working as a team can really help with communication skills in the workplace, which I found I really improved on. Working as a team will get you closer to your peers, and I had found that working with Eric, Theon and Joshua, we all worked well as a team, involving good communications skills, and effort towards bringing out quality food. Being in control of my section, I worked on improving my leadership skills, which I incorporated in keeping steady control. It's good to be learning these skills earlier in life so it prepares you for the real workplace industry.

This is something I would do again because I loved working as a team with my friends. We really got to connect and fulfil our needs together. Some advice I would share with future VM students is don't overthink it, don't rush anything and you will find peace.

Toby Felici (12A)

PS. Our last café for the term will run on Tuesday in Week 10.
